Disc 1
Denver Colorado gets in a verbal argument with Corvis Fear about putting Doom Patrol (Chris Dickinson, Jonny Mangue, and Pitboss) in their place. Fear says its Colorado’s job to put them in place since it’s his company. Colorado says that Fear and his buddies can take care of Doom Patrol in the ring. Little is resolved when they part ways.
Aeroform (Flip Kendrick (-1) & Louis Lyndon (-1)) vs. Team Beyond (Chase Burnett (-8) & Zane Silver (-6))
I am left here absolutely speechless after seeing this match. So, you see these two teams, and you expect something good right? I thought the same, but I had no idea just how good it would be. This match has it all: hard striking, guys flying all around, a nice story, and really innovative stuff. For its length, it flew by so fast and left me with a good feeling. It’s truly sensational and easily the best match I’ve seen for all four guys. It’s really indescribable and just has to be seen to be believed. This match alone is worth the DVD purchase and is in my opinion the best match in Beyond Wrestling history. For the record, Burnett scored the pin with a Kneecolepsy to Lyndon’s head at 16:55. ****
Johnny Cockstrong (+5) vs. Jeff Yager (-2) vs. Jarek 1:20 (-2) vs. Jack Verville (0)
Pure silliness this was. This was almost all comedy for the first few minutes, specifically centered around Cockstrong’s…well, cock. Things then broke down into the usual four way madness Beyond is used to providing, including an absolutely brutal beach break from Cockstrong onto Jarek on the top rope. The finish was interesting. Cockstrong went for a Doomsday Device, with Yager holding Jarek. Jarek fell back and dropped Yager on his head while Cockstrong landed on Verville. Cockstrong pinned Verville at the same time Jarek pinned Yager. The referee had his eyes on Cockstrong, so he got the win at 13:28. A little too silly for my taste at the start, but ended strong. **3/4
Anthony Stone approaches his opponent, Nick Talent, with good intentions. Talent gives him nothing but an earful of disrespect, and the tone of their conversation changes. Things just got real!
Anthony Stone (-4) vs. Nick Talent (-2)
This is pretty much what you’d expect – two guys beating the crap out of one another to earn each other’s respect. However, they played off their pre-match promo very well and had a great match that had you believing either many could win. Just a good, stiff contest. Stone won the match by landing on Talent’s chest with double knees for the pin at 8:35. ***
Doom Patrol (Chris Dickinson (+5) & Jonny Mangue (-2)) vs. Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous (TJ Marconi (-1) & Darius Carter (-2))
Pitboss accompanies Doom Patrol to the ring. Doom Patrol jumped Marconi and Carter at the bell, but quickly got the tide turned on them. Basically, this was a coming out party for Marconi and Carter. They hung with Doom Patrol, and in my opinion, overshadowed them for most of the match. Marconi was someone I didn’t think much of before this match, but now I REALLY think he’s awesome. Carter is excellent too. Mangue seemed off this match though Dickinson brought the goods as per usual. Doom Patrol scored a double pin with Mangue dropping Carter with a brainbuster and Dickinson dropping Marconi with a gut-wrench driver at 6:25. With more time, this would have been even better. Denver Colorado says he’s like to see a rematch down the line; I couldn’t agree more. **3/4
Matt Cross (-1) vs. Zack Novak (-6)
Much like he did at Wrestletopia, Cross approaches Novak with a “holier than thou” attitude. Cross decides to screw with Novak, hiding outside of the door to the building and sneak attacking him. Cross and Novak crawled up the side of the garage, and Cross knocked him down onto the ring ropes, which bounced him down to the floor. Novak seemed to be easy pickings for Cross, but Novak refused to give up. Novak seemed to have turned the tide, and went up top. Cross caught Novak with a dropkick to the knee as he came off the top rope. Cross followed up with a standing shooting star press to pick up the win at 14:21. Novak is someone I feel as if I haven’t seen a lot of lately, but he’s always been a stand out on the shows and is one of the best guys they have. He and Cross put together another unique match that helped raise Novak’s stock. ***1/4
All of a sudden, all three members of Doom Patrol attack Denver Colorado ringside and bust his head open. Dickinson jabs Colorado multiple times in the face with a fork! Mangue headbutts Colorado in his wound and Pitboss chokes him with a pipe. Dickinson rips his pants off and his hockey jersey, revealing a Necro Butcher shirt. Team Beyond and Zack Novak hit the ring and chase Doom Patrol off.
Disc 2
Jarek 1:20 (-3) vs. KJ Crush (-1)
So these two beat the crap out of each other. Crush, who is much larger than Jarek, used his size advantage to command a lot of the opening portion of the match. That changed when Jarek gave Crush a drop toe hold into the steps. Crush however quickly came back by hitting a snapmare driver on the steps. Crush would continue to use his weight to his advantage, and decided to bring a chair into the match. He looked to give Jarek an Air Raid Crash on the chair, but Jarek transitioned into a Canadian Destroyer on the chair to pick up the win at 15:33. A crazy match that really allowed both guys to break out. Not much more to say than that. ***
”Kano” Josh Emanuel (-1) vs. Pitboss (+2)
The less said about this the better. Jonny Mangue was out there with Pitboss, helped him take out Kano. Kano made a comeback, Pitboss picked up the win by low blowing Kano and hitting him with a Dominator at 10:35. I won’t say who I blame for this being not good…but I will say I don’t blame Kano. *
Chris Dickinson (+6) vs. Jeff Yager (-3)
Like seeing Dickinson beat the shit out of people? I’ve found your match! Dickinson destroyed…and I mean destroyed Yager. It was glorious! Between him forking the crap out of the boss and this destroyal, it’s easy to see that Dickinson has snapped. Yager didn’t stand a chance, as Dickinson relentlessly mauled him with strikes and kicks. In the end, Dickinson KILLED Yager with a Burning Hammer off the top rope to score the victory at 8:25. Such a fun watch. **3/4
The Necro Butcher (-1) vs. Jonny Mangue (-1)
This was time for Doom Patrol to get their come uppence. Denver Colorado recruited the Necro Butcher to help take out Mangue as a measure of revenge. Pitboss and Dickinson were ringside, and appropriately freaked out when they learned Necro was going to take on Mangue. Necro beat the crap out of Mangue for awhile, even using a random item from outside the building to assist in his attack. Mangue regained control back inside the ring with a little help from his partners. Necro would of course regain the advantage, and tossed Mangue onto the edge of a couch ringside and beat him in the entrance way. Pitboss low blowed Necro to help out Mangue and Dickinson interjected himself. This brought out Denver Colorado, who prevented Dickinson from doing further damage. Necro dropped Mangue with a Tiger Driver on the steel chair for the win at 14:25. I loved the story of this match, and the fact that Colorado was willing to physically interject himself in the match helped show just how major this feud is. The story was conveyed so well and is probably the best job Beyond has done to convey a story. ***
Corvis Fear (+8) & Zack Novak (-7) vs. Anthony Stone (-3) & Nick Talent (-3)
This match came very close to the opening match of the show. Stone and Talent’s mutual respect led to them teaming together. Needless to say, I’m glad they did, because they put together some really cool sequences and double teams. Novak and Fear did as well, making for a wildly entertaining and creative tag outing. Sometimes, tag matches can run together because their so formulaic. This broke the mold and provided a fast, fun, exciting match with moves and sequences I’ve straight up never seen in my 17 years as a fan. Fear accidentally sets up Novak for a snapmare driver. Talent gave Fear the Sole Food, and Stone came off the top rope with double knees to Fear, who fell onto Novak. Talent and Stone both pin their opponents for the win at 9:40. Really innovative, exciting action that I recommend people check out. ***1/2
Denver Colorado congratulates the crew for putting on another successful taping. Doom Patrol comes in, with Dickinson wearing Drew’s hockey jersey. Team Beyond and Zack Novak come in and attack them, and the DVD ends with a great brawl between these six.
Bonus Disc
Danny Danger (-1) vs. TJ Marconi (-2)
Danger had a one-time squash match with Ezekiel Jackson on ECW, but with the way he carried himself you’d think he had been on TV for ages. Marconi looked to shut him up, and took the early lead. Danger then gained control for awhile, using impressive moves such as a 619 into a splash and the Danger Drop (a Cobra Clutch bulldog). Danger looked for the Ram Jam, but got caught with a chokeslam from Marconi. Marconi would proceed to take most of the final portion of the match, as his size was too much for Danger. Marconi picked up Danger for a TKO, and Danger retaliated by sliding off of Marconi’s back and grabbing the bottom rope for leverage to score the pin at 10:41. This was a great way to kick off the bonus disc. You had an excellent story with the larger Marconi looking to shut up the cocky, smaller Danger for most of the match. As it turns out, neither man took the other too seriously at first, but both turned out to be pretty good. I was really impressed with Danger the first time I saw him and still feel that way after this match. Marconi looked excellent too, and reminds me in some ways of Brodie Lee (that’s a compliment). **3/4
Aiden Hallows (-3) vs. KJ Crush (0)
This match was not my cup of tea. It started out with just a bunch of elbows and punches, then a chair got involved and was the driving force behind the rest of the match. Crush gave Hallows a Blue Thunder Bomb on the chair and a moonsault, which would have been great if that were the finish. Then the match carried on, and Hallows him with a tumbleweed senton onto a chair on Crush’s chest to pick up the win at 11:05. I just didn’t think this was very interesting, and I didn’t think the finish was very realistic considering Hallows was just dropped on a chair and nailed by a big fat dude with a moonsault. *
Chase Burnett (-7) vs. Johnny Cockstrong (+6)
Never has cock based offense been so believable. I feel like I’ve said that before, but it’s true again in this match. It started off as mostly comedic offense, such as Cockstrong crotching both himself and Burnett on the ropes and riding the ropes so that it hurt Burnett’s junk. Cockstrong pulled out some of his signature stuff like the Pencil Cock and Shining Cock to score a couple nearfalls. Cockstrong went for his Air Raid Crash called the Yes Way, which Burnett countered with a crucifix bomb. Burnett took Cockstrong off the top rope with double knees to the back, carrying over into a sunset bomb from the top rope. Cockstrong kicked out, and Burnett hit two kneecolepsy’s to finally score the winning pinfall at 8:10. Burnett did a great job here, showing Cockstrong that messing around so much won’t cut the mustard. Cockstrong’s act does get worn out after seeing him a few times, but he at least knows in the match when it’s time to severely cut it down and take things home. **3/4
Aeroform (Flip Kendrick (-2) & Louis Lyndon (-2)) vs. The Jollyville Fuck-Its (Russ Myers (-4) & T-Money (-3))
This story was similar to the first match in the sense that you had a team of smaller high-fliers against two tough bruisers. Like that match, the dichotomy worked fantastically. Kendrick and Lyndon flying around, mixed with being tossed around by Myers and T-Money for a really entertaining bout. The Fuck-Its have really cleaned up their look and act and could be a solid team if their name weren’t so brash. Needless to say, I really liked this bout. The finish came when T-Money gave Lyndon an awesome package piledriver off the second rope for the pin at 12:41. ***1/4
Jefferson Saint (+7) vs. Darius Carter (-3)
Saint and Carter put on a great wrestling clinic at first, which played to Saint’s strengths. While a lot of the action took place on the mat, both Carter and Saint would make sure to get a solid strike in here and there. Saint almost had things won with his figure four leg lock, but Carter grabbed the ropes to escape. Fed up, Saint set up a guardrail between the steel steps and a couch. Saint went up top, but got pushed off onto the guardrail by Carter. Saint somehow managed to kick out back in the ring and exchanged more blows with Carter. Finally, Carter was able to kick Saint away to avoid being put in the figure four leg lock yet again, and hit the Code Breaker for the pin at 15:00. This so much different than anything else on the bonus disc, and different from a lot of things you see in Beyond Wrestling. They saved the best for last and delivered a fantastic, captivating bout. ***1/2
“Developmental Hell” DVD Teaser
Corvis Fear vs. Lamont Williams Music Video
Doom Patrol Attacks Denver Colorado Montage
Overall: Wow. That’s all I can say about this DVD. This is easily the best Beyond Wrestling show yet. It became abundantly clear that over the last few DVD’s that Beyond had really began interspersing great matches with storylines very well. We’re now at the point where they’ve hit their stride in a big way, and both the match quality and excitement of the angles have been kicked up a notch. You seriously get a great deal with this DVD – 15 matches for $15 plus three bonus videos. When you consider the vast majority of these matches are around the three star mark or higher, and one of them is in my opinion the best match ever in Beyond Wrestling, this is a no brainer. Folks, I couldn’t recommend highly enough picking up “Developmental Hell”. It’s such an enjoyable watch and is simply much different and much more interesting than a lot of wrestling these days. So do yourself a favor, and pick up the DVD over at Beyond Wrestling’s official website or at Smart Mark Video.
