Ring of Honor Wresting and Chikara Pro Wrestling are booked to perform in the same building, on the same day, one after the other.
Venues, talent and even fans can, have and are being shared by both companies. The independent scene is no stranger to this.
On April 28, 2012, from the Frontier Fieldhouse in Chicago Ridge, IL., the back-to-back spectacle of Chikara’s, “Hot off the Griddle,” and ROH’s “Unity,” events; will serve both promotions and the fans that pump their hearts, a history making evening.
Ring of Honor “Unity,” booked to take place following the Chikara show on April 28, prematurely draws out a label, which furthermore defines well ahead of its time, the idea of coming together to create something new.
Through unity, both promotions will attempt to harmonize their followers, through what we can now refer to as the ROH-CHIKARA SYNERGY.
Synergy: Each promotion will engage in joint-action to imply that the effect of combined agents is GREATER than the sum of their individuality.
As all die-hard Chikara fans would want to have it, despite Chikara’s choice to select an atypical, redundantly, trademarked event-title such as “Hot off the Griddle,” their most faithful supporters will look forward to what will formulate from such a randomly placed independent professional wrestling double-header.
To be completely fair, the above paragraph can also be applied to ROH and their most faithful heading into April 28.
On January 20 at the ROH Homecoming 2012 event, Hallowicked and Jigsaw of Chikara were provided with a chance to enter the ROH World Tag-Team Championship proving grounds against the ROH World Tag-Team Champions, the Briscoe Brothers.
Thanks to overwhelming support from the Chikara locker room at ring-side, Jay and Mark Briscoe were defeated via pin fall, thus earning Hallowicked and Jigsaw a future ROH World Tag-Team Championship Match. (Currently booked for ROH “Unity” on April 28)
Post-match, Chikara’s captain crusader, Mike Quackenbush, stood alongside some of the Chikara world’s most likable personalities, including, Ultramantis Black, Dasher Hatfield, Frightmare, the Colony, Hallowicked and Jigsaw. They addressed the Briscoe Brothers indirectly and Ring of Honor much more directly.
Ultramantis Black spoke of his desire and his Chikara Army’s desire, to bring the titles that currently sit around the waist of the Briscoe Brothers to Chikara. Thus making it clear those standing beside him representing Chikara, inside of an ROH-ring, is in support of such an event taking place.
Less than one week after one of the most shocking victories in Ring of Honor tag-team history, it was announced that a duel event now known as the ROH-CHIKARA Synergy will take place.
No matter what promotion you may prefer and even if a preference does not exist, fans planning to focus in on, what is being thought out for April 28, 2012, have their own perception and logic of what could or should happen.
In addition, the same grouping most likely will, or, has already embarked on a journey of speculation in regard to what is wanted or needed, to draw-out the success of something rather unforeseen and impulsive. Unforeseen and impulsive: Two highly indicative aspects of creating something amazingly atypical.
It seems rather obvious that forming hostility between these two promotions is something that would, could and should work creatively.
The reasons behind the above opinion are exhausting, but the significant differentiation between both promotions is what would, could and should forcefully steer each and every idea leaning towards what every professional wrestling fan considers an invasion.
On Jan. 20, 2012, members from the Chikara Army invaded Ring of Honor in Philadelphia. It happened rather insignificantly and without violence, but nevertheless it took place. Fair enough.
It seems obvious there would be an overwhelming majority of fans from each promotion, fans of both promotions, and even fans focused in on other promotions, that want to see this idea take off in the creative direction known as an invasion angle.
However, in an attempt to stray away from mentioning any of my experience with watching professional wrestling, based on the moderately-mild atmosphere during the Briscoe Brothers defeat; a complexly heated-invasion is not what appears to be brewing at this point in time.
Perhaps, due to the events that have taken place thus far, what is needed to provide the ROH-CHIKARA Synergy double-header event with a significant purpose, is to have both the ROH and Chikara locker rooms continually and stubbornly conscious and cautious of April 28, 2012.
Having talent other than the Briscoe Brothers concerned and relatively pissed off heading into ROH’s “Unity,” could deem the event(s) as less of an irritating cash-grab for those who have already began to hype themselves up for a hypothetical showdown between various talent from each company.
Having talent other than Jigsaw, Hallowicked and those who stood beside them on January 20, tremendously energized heading into Chikara’s, “Hot off the Griddle,” should continue to make both events seem like more than just an idea, concept or potential tryout of any kind.
Expectations tend to drive the entire professional wrestling industry.
However, in an attempt to stray away from mentioning my experience with watching professional wrestling once again, individual expectations for April 28 have already been put into place.
Nothing major has taken place to pump this idea into a concept and furthermore into a story. Therefore, as a die-hard wrestling evaluator I expect nothing major…yet.
Perhaps, what needs to take place leading up to the ROH-CHIKARA Synergy double-header for both promotions is more of the same material we saw drawn out on January 20.
Based on speculation, expectations and the propaganda, these shows need to be well calculated, by both fan(s) and promotion(s).
What we want to expect as die-hard fans of both promotions could be nowhere near what Ring of Honor and Chikara expect or want.
However, Chikara and ROH completely oppose each other upon the delivery of their professional wrestling product and therefore, it seems reasonable to assume why these two promotions could create in-ring chemistry.
Chikara and ROH completely oppose each other upon the delivery of their professional wrestling product and therefore, it seems reasonable to assume why these two promotions should be able to drive this idea into a dispute; furthermore launching the concept into a pool of bad-blood and finally, warfare.
This may be what certain individuals feel is wanted. This may be what certain individuals feel is needed. However, it seems fair to assume each individual planning to invest in what could shape-up on April 28; want to speculate, want to imagine and most importantly want to be entertained.
At this point in time, I could conclude with hype, or, at this point in time, should I conclude hype-less?
At this point in time, through unity, what these two promotions need is for intrigue to take place in unison.
As a fan of both ROH and Chikara, talk isn’t cheap and listed above is about 1,000 words to prove it.
