Premiere Wrestling Xperience(PWX) recently celebrated it’s 7th anniversiary in familiar fashion with an extremely successful two night show entitled “Rise of A Champion”. I was on hand for the second night in Charlotte, NC and am here to give you the good, the bad, and the indifferent from one of the strongest Independent promotions in the Southeast. Both nights of this event will be available on DVD very soon so please check www.pwxperience.com and www.highspots.com for info on how to order this & all the other great events from Premiere Wrestling Xperience. The Following review is #1MansOpinon

Several of the biggest names from Ring Of Honor wrestling call PWX a part time home and we didn’t have to wait long to see two of our honored guests at Rise of A champion. Jay & Mark, The Briscoe Brothers interrupted the opening video package to a loud cheer, which would soon turn to louder boos. The Briscoes have accepted a $500 Bounty from Rhett Titus to take out the team of 7OH!4. The current ROH tag team champions ran down their opponents for the night, local favorites Cedric Alexander & Caleb Konley(the team of 7OH!4). The Briscoes let the hometown fans know they could do this match right now but ringside security was able to keep the four men seperated as The Briscoes littered the ring with chairs before making their exit.

Mike Posey v Adam Page
Former TNA referee Mike Posey took on fan favorite Adam Page in the opening matchup of the night. Posey made ring announcer Chris Shore go through several overly flattering ring introductions before Page made his entrance to a great ovation. The two started off the event with a very good opener. Page & Posey immediately exchanged a pinfall/reversal series that had me out of my seat in applause. Posey picked his opportunities from that point on getting any type of dirty offense he could but was caught by an impressive piggy back stunner as Adam Page earned another victory one night after a hard fought match with ROH Star Roderick Strong. ** 3/4

Lucky 7 Fray Match- Winner Receives a future PWX Heavyweight title shot

This was a royal rumble entry style elimination match and it got pretty crazy  from the start. Jimmy Jack Funk Jr & Nick Richards started the match off and were soon joined by Arik Royal. Our first elimination didn’t come until the fourth man Wild Man Wolf entered & eliminated Nick Richards. JJF Jr’s partner Zane Riley then joined the fray followed by Craig Huffman & Big John Rigg. Rigg quickly eliminated Wolfman and in turn was eliminated by JJF Jr. Arik Royal then went on the offensive eliminating Huffman, & JJF Jr after a miscommunication between he & “Damn Texans” partner Zane. There was no miscommunication in the end however as JJF Jr got a measure of revenge on his partner hitting him with the cowbell as Arik Royal got the win.  Royal, Funk, & Zane are mainstays on the southeast indies & are always consummate professionals who give the fans their all each night. Unfortunately some of the people involved in this match were having an off night or aren’t quite “ready for primetime” but the major stories here was the dissention between “Dem Damn Texans” and firstly there  is a new contender for the PWX title, in Arik Royal and he’s a definite threat. **

Marcellus “The Mid Atlantic” King v Ernie Osiris
This one was a strong contender for MOTN as Marcellus King returned to PWX for the first time since being defeated by Colt Cabana in December 2011. King, the current Pro Wrestling EVO champion notched one of the bigger wins in his career defeating current Embassy member & ROH star Ernie Osiris. These two had an outstanding, technical match that told a story better than most of what you’ll see on TV on a regular basis. King dominated for the most part but couldn’t put Osiris away and it nearly cost him. Osiris mounted a comeback hitting a big moonsault but it was the surprise emergence of King’s EVO henchman in their faction “The Cirkus” Circo pulling the leg of Osiris as King hit the “Murder Go Round” for the big victory. Post match King introduced the crowd to Circo saying “Some of you may know, some of you don’t but tonight The Cirkus is in Town”. ***

Corey Hollis, Chip Day, & Chiva Kid v Fun Athletic Guys(Ben Tyler & Trevor Lee) &”Mr. Elite” Drew Myers

This final match of the first half of the show had all the energy of an entire independent wrestling card. Just a great match, with exciting spots the whole way through, brutal kicks and innovative offense. The Fun Athletic Guys & Myers isolated Chiva as part of their game plan to wear down their challengers, however the energy on behalf of Hollis, Day & Chiva never seemed to end. You WILL want to get the DVD to see this match amongst others. Chiva got the win for his team with the always amazing 620 splash. *** 1/2

The Great Outdoors(Grizzly Redwood & Jake Manning) v Corey Havoc & Joey Janela

The crowd in Charlotte was reenergized and on their feet after intermission as the extremely popular Manning & Redwood made their way to the ring. Corey Havoc & Joey Janela were escorted to the ring by Amber O’ Neal and the trio immediately started working on the near 250(maybe more) fans in attendance. Janela who is the lackey of PWX Champion Rhett Titus, and to a lesser degree Corey Havoc took most of the offense in this one as The Great Outdoors used quick tags in & out to keep Janela isolated. Once Janela got the upperhand on Redwood, Havoc tagged in and picked apart the pieces but always picked his spots and got Janela back into the ring. Redwood was able to get the tag to Manning who came in clearing house on both Havoc & Janela who never recovered & The Great Outdoors notched one more victory in their survival belts. ** 1/2

PWX Heavyweight Championship Match
Rhett Titus(c) v Roderick Strong
Titus has amazingly sucessfully defended his title numerous times with a knee injury and tonight he would have another tough test in ROH colleague Roderick Strong. The two started off with a feeling out process and it was Titus who got the advantage. Titus turned the tables on Roddy, working on his back & neck. Roddy as most know can brutalize his opponents back & neck as good as anyone. One other thing Roddy has going for him is a ‘never say die” attitude and he fought back against the long reigning champion with brutal chops & put himself into an opportunity to win the match. Unfortunately there is strength in number & on this night Titus againr retained the title as Havoc & Janela distracted the ref, Amber O’ Neal distracted Strong & Titus hit the impaler DDT to retain once again. ***

$500 Bounty Tag Team Main Event
The Briscoe Brothers v 7OH!4(Cedric Alexander & Caleb Konley)
It didn’t take long for the brawl to break out in this one & it continued throughout the whole match as all four men desperately wanted to get their hands on each other & The Briscoes wanted the $500 they had been promised. 70H!4 wasted no time in flying to the outside and showing the ROH tag champs that they were not going to be an easy bounty to collect. Finally Jay & Mark isolated Cedric as Konley was down and The Briscoes brutalized Alexander while taunting his family from the ring. Once again strength in numbers wins out in this one as Rhett Titus came out to help cash in on his own bounty & ensure two top challengers for his title will be taken out. The Briscoes hit their signature “doomsday device” on Alexander for the win as Konley was outside distracted by the PWX champion. After the match, The Briscoes got rid of Konley & left a broken, battered Alexander in the ring for Titus who preceded to hang Alexander over the top rope with a bull rope. Some of the fans at ringside(reportedly Alexander’s family) took exception to this & threw a chair in the ring at Titus as a great night of wrestling ended in pandemonium. *** 1/4

Overall Show Rating 7.5/10
