AAPW Main Event 1/14/2012

            Main Event was held on January 14, 2012 and was a HUGE milestone for All American Pro Wrestling. International Stars Colt “Boom Boom” Cabana, PAC, and El Generico joined the roster of AAPW for this special fan appreciation show.

“Serial Thriller” Shane Rich joins Chris Hagstrom and Kevin Hunsperger at the announce table for the show.

“Golden Boy” Greg Anthony

Vs.

Heath Hatton

Recap: This match is a holdover from the tag team battles both men have been involved in. Greg Anthony turned on his partner, Shane Rich, after a severe motorcycle accident. Heath Hatton was left without a partner when Curly was released from AAPW.

Review: Golden Boy is the first to the ring and quickly takes the mic and begins talking trash. He goes on and on about how good he is and how this will be Hatton’s career as he promises he is going to cripple him. Hatton enters the ring and the 2 men quickly lock up in a collar and elbow tie up. Hatton backs Golden Boy into the corner and releases the hold. After some more trash talking by Anthony and Hatton playing to the crowd the men tie up once again. The hold is released and after some time wasted Hatton moves in and runs into a kick to the midsection from Anthony. After some back and forth Hatton nails 2 drop kicks in a row, knocking Anthony into the corner. After Hatton is distracted by the referee, Anthony comes out of the ring with a chop block to the back of Hatton’s knee trying to ground him. At this point Anthony begins working on the left knee of Hatton. Golden Boy gets Heath into a figure 4 leg lock and keeps the hold on for several minutes before Hatton is able to get to the bottom rope and break the hold. After both men are back on their feet, Hatton quickly locks Golden Boy into a sleeper hold. Anthony is able to use his weight to take Hatton into the corner to break the hold only for the 2 men to run into one another and crash heads. Both men eventually get back to their feet and Hatton takes control. Hatton goes to the top rope for a missile drop kick only to have Golden Boy move out of the way. Anthony goes for another figure 4 only to have Hatton roll him up into a small package for the 1-2-3 and the win.

WINNER = Heath Hatton

–          Next is an interview with Stacey O’Brian talking about her history with Rebecca Raze. She also goes on to talk about their match later in the show.

Pokerface Open Challenge

            Recap: Pokerface is undefeated in AAPW and has put out an open challenge for anyone that wants to come in and try to take him out. It is announced that “M-Dogg 20” Matt Cross, who was one of the competitors on the last season of WWE Tough Enough, has decided to take the challenge.

            Review: Both men play to the crowd for several minutes trying to prove who is more popular. The match starts off with Cross taking Pokerface to the mat with rear waste lock and going into a rear chin lock. Pokerface slips out and gets M Dogg into an arm bar. Cross works several reverses and ends with Pokerface in a wrist lock. The men go back and forth for several minutes trading blow for blow and lock for lock. The 2 men trade advantages back and forth with Pokerface hitting Cross with a DDT then goes for The Ghetto Blaster. Cross ducks and goes for one of his own. After some back and forth Pokerface eventually nails The Ghetto Blaster, gets the 1-2-3 and his undefeated streak remains intact.

WINNER = Pokerface

            Next we see Chris Hagstrom joined by El Generico and PAC talking about their match later in the show. El Generico puts PAC over talking about how much he respects him. PAC says that it has been 2 years since they faced one another and El Generico doesn’t know him at all.

Five Man Free For All

            Recap: The match features “Playboy” Paul Rose in all his pink and rotund glory, “Farmer” Billy Hills, “Sin City Sensation” Jay Spade, Bull Bronson, and Justice. All I can say is WHAT IS JAY SPADE THINKING?!??!?!?! He is by far the underdog in this match, but there is something about him that reminds me of Rey Mysterio. Always the smallest dog in the pen, but always has the most heart.

            Review: The match starts off once all 5 men are in the ring and quickly looks like organized chaos. Bronson throws Spade out of the ring as the Farmer and the Playboy go at one another in the ring. Justice follows Bull outside the ring and goes on the attack. Justice leans Bull against a ring corner post and goes for a lariat, but Bull moves letting Justice slam his arm into the post. Justice seems to be pretty badly hurt after this and Bronson continues working on Justice’s arm. Justice is helped to the back by a ref to be checked out. Rose and Bronson are going after Spade, which quickly brings Hills in for the rescue. Spade goes to the top rope and takes down the other 3 men with a somersault plancha. Bull and Hills move back into the ring and Bull goes on the attack. Rose and Bronson begin working together on Hills and Spade, taking Spade out with a lariat and leaving Hills in the corner. Eventually Justice is able to rejoin the match and goes on the attack of Bronson and Rose. Justice gets Rose with a pump handle slam, but fails to go for the pin. Bronson throws Justice from the ring and after a splash to Rose gets the win.

WINNER = “Playboy “ Paul Rose

– This is a great match and show cases 4 of the biggest men in AAPW. Jay Spade shows his heart and willingness to go toe to toe with anyone.

Bull Bronson & Roscoe Dwayne Harris

Vs.

The Money Makin’ Jam Boys

            Recap: This was supposed to be a match between The Convoy and The Money Makin Jam Boys, but ½ of The Convoy is replaced by Bull Bronson for unknown reasons.

            Review: One of the very few times Bull Bronson is NOT the biggest man in the ring. Ms. Madman and Bronson start off the match with Bull taking a few shots at the Madman, which seem to have little to no effect. The 2 men tie up with Bull breaking the hold and making the tag to Harris. Madman gets Harris into the corner for several splashes before tagging in KC, who is the high flyer of the team. Madman sends Harris into the corner then sends Jackson into the corner for a splash. Harris comes out of the corner only to be sent into a boot from Madman. The match goes back and forth with both team trading tags and shots from one another. After a clothesline to Bronson from Harris and a stunner from Jackson, Madman gets the pin and the win for The Money Makin Jam Boys.

WINNERS = Money Makin’ Jam Boys

            Next is Chris Hagstrom back stage with Colt “Boom Boom” Cabana talking about his match with “3G” Eric Wayne and his first time in AAPW.

PAC

Vs.

El Generico

            Recap: This is a special attraction match between 2 international super stars. Both PAC and El Generico have wrestled around the world and in various indy promotions, and are well known to many wrestling fans.

            Review: The 2 men shake hands in a show of respect and things quickly take off. Things go back and forth between arm locks bars and wrist locks ending in a stalemate. PAC takes El Generico to the mat in an arm bar and again El Generico is able to reverse it and get out with an arm drag take down. Even after 2 years the men seem to know each other’s moves pretty well. The match goes back and forth with A LOT of high flying moves and quick reversals. Eventually PAC gets El Generico down and climbs to the top rope and executes a 360 corkscrew splash and gets the win.

WINNER= PAC

–          This was an AMAZING match between 2 well known Indy guys. Both men should be more well-known than they are and have skills far and away better than some of the guys in the “Big 2”

Next up is an interview with “Old School Warrior” Ax Allwardt and Gaylord Stevens. Allwardt trash talks the current AAPW Heavyweight Champion Edmund “Livewire” McGuire.

We go back to the ring for the award for “Female Wrestler of the Year”. Missouri Wrestling Revival Head of Relations Dubray Tallman is brought out to present the award. She explains a little to the crowd what MWR is all about before calling out Stacey O’Brien, who was voted “Female Wrestler of the Year”. O’Brien begins to give a speech before being rudely interrupted by Rebecca Raze.

Stacey O’Brien

Vs.

Rebecca Raze

            Recap: This is a grudge match of sorts as Raze has a serious attitude problem and is jealous of O’Brien’s accolades.

            Review: The match starts with raze going on the attack after interrupting O’Brien’s award ceremony. The match goes back and forth between the 2 women trading punches and take downs. Raze eventually takes control again by using short cuts and under handed techniques. O’Brien tries to mount a come back only to be stopped in her tracks. After some more back and forth O’Brien gets Raze into a roll up bridge to get the pin fall.

WINNER = Stacey O’Brien

–          A great match between 2 talented ladies. A certain northern promotion could take some notes on this one.

Next we go backstage with Mike Masters about his match with Kevin Hunsperger. Masters goes onto to yell and scream about how he is going to take Hunsperger out.

“3G” Eric Wayne

Vs.

Colt “Boom Boom” Cabana

            Recap: Eric Wayne LOVES to tell everyone how he is a 3rd generation wrestler, which in  his mind makes him better than everyone else. Colt Cabana is an internationally known star who has wrestled for NWA, WWE, and various other Indy promotions.

            Review: Wayne climbs in the ring and as he has done the last several weeks on Collision, throws his shirt into the face of Chris Hagstrom at the announce table. Hagstrom gets a little irritated and throws it back into the ring where Wayne grabs it and throws it back only to have it thrown back in again. Cabana grabs it at this point and begins having fun. After some antics from Cabana with Wayne’s shirt, Cabana takes his time rolling his jacket up to mess with Wayne. Cabana goes on the attack only to have Wayne run out of the ring flustered.  Wayne comes back into the ring and the 2 men begin to battle with Wayne getting the early advantage. Cabana turns things around with a slap to the face of Wayne sending him out of the ring once again to slow things down. The match goes back and forth with each man taking the advantage at different times. Eventually Cabana gets “3G” in the Chicago crab, but Wayne is able to get to the ropes to break the hold. After several exchanges Wayne gets Cabana up for the Death Valley Driver and to every ones surprise gets the win.

WINNER = “3G” Eric Wayne

–          This was a great match to watch. Cabana is always fun in the ring and Wayne definitely shows his pedigree.

Next up is AAPW Heavy Weight Champion Edmund “Livewire” McGuire. Livewire talks about the history between himself and “Old School Warrior” Ax Allwardt.

After the interview with Livewire, there is a video package detailing the history between Mike Masters and Kevin Hunsperger leading into their match.

“The Masterpiece” Mike Masters

Vs.

AAPW Announcer Kevin Hunsperger

Recap: This match has been building up since before Collision started on television. Masters blames his losing streak on Hunsperger, and vows to take out the announcer.

Review: This is a VERY one sided match from the beginning. Masters has 12 years of experience, while Kevin has no in ring experience what so ever. After the bell Masters begins messing with Kevin to get in his head. Hunsperger has enough at one point and slaps Masters right across the face. Mike goes on the attack and begins beating Hunsperger down. Masters is in complete control through most of the match, just beating on Hunsperger. Masters gets several 2 counts on Kevin, but Hunsperger kicks out on each one. Masters goes for another pin, only to pull Hunsperger up himself. Masters leaves the ring and gets in the face of Chris Hagstrom then grabs a chair and takes it into the ring as Hagstrom follows him. Masters pretends to hit Hunsperger with the chair, only to sit down in it and begin taunting Kevin. Masters continues to abuse Hunsperger for several minutes only to have Chris Hagstrom get the refs attention. As the ref is distracted with Hagstrom Jay Spade comes running from the back and taking the chair naisl Masters in the head knocking him out and allowing Kevin to get the win.

WINNER = Kevin Hunsperger

– Kevin Hunsperger show his heart in hiss first ever match. He takes everything masters has to offer and still gets the win, albeit with a little help from a friend.

AAPW Heavyweight Champion Edmund “Livewire” McGuire

Vs.

“Old School Warrior” Ax Allwardt

            Recap: The bad blood has been building between these 2 for months. Allwardt has tried in every conceivable way to take out McGuire, even trying to run him down in a car. This is a no DQ Match for the heavy weight title.

            Review:  It is plainly obvious the minute McGuire comes out to the ring he is a man set on revenge. Skipping the usual playing to the crowd Livewire focuses straight on Allwardt and is ready to go. The 2 men go nose to nose and begin a shoving match. Almost immediately Gaylord Stevens jumps in and begins to assist Allwardt in attacking Livewire. Livewire is able tto gain some momentum though and sends Stevens outside the ring busted open after slamming Stevens and Allwardt’s heads together. Livewire follows the 2 men out and begins beating on Ax in a manner of revenge. Livewire is in control taking out a lot of built up aggression on Allwardt. As the 2 men head back into the ring, Gaylord Stevens grabs Livewire’s ankle keeping him from going back in and allowing Ax to attack and gain some momentum. Ax keeps control of the match for some time using everything from punches to kicks to a leather belt on McGuire. After 2 refs are taken out, Allwardt gets a 2 count on McGuire after a spine buster. Referee after referee is taken out by missed shots and short cuts. Allwardt eventually goes out and brings in a chair, which back fires when Livewire nails Ax with a super kick. Stevens attempts to jump in and gets a super kick of his own, after which Allwardt receives another one for good measure. Livewire gets the pin to retain the AAPW Heavy weight Championship.

WINNER = Edmund “Livewire” McGuire

            AAPW has made some HUGE strides in production and product over the last several months. The guys continue to get more comfortable in front of the camera and the matches flow more and more easily. In my eyes “Main Event” DEFINITELY lived up to the hype that was built around it leading up to the show. Some of the other promotions could look to AAPW and take some notes on how to do things.

            I am looking forward to watching AAPW continue to grow and expand, hopefully bringing in some more top name talent to bolster the roster and help the regular guys improve.
