Super Indy is undoubtedly the International Wrestling Cartel's biggest event of the year. There have been ten installments of Super Indy thus far, featuring talent such as CM Punk, Christopher Daniels, Low Ki, Chris Hero, Matt Sydal, Claudio Castagnoli, Colt Cabana, Davey Richards, and even 2 Cold Scorpio. IWC will present Super Indy XI on June 23rd, 2012 at the Court Time Sports Center in Elizabeth, PA. I’m here to preview the tournament and give some predictions, as I think this year’s lineup is something that more people should notice. The bracket is below:

You would most likely know both of these men from either MidWest Wrestling or PRIME Wrestling (formerly Pro Wrestling Ohio). Gory has also made appearances for EVOLVE, where he teamed with Facade. Justice is someone that unquestionably carries himself well and I think more people would be talking about him if he’d wrestle in more promotions. Gory is another talent that could excel if given the opportunity to showcase his singles abilities. I do not want to bash Facade, but I think Gory has more value in a singles role than he does teaming with Facade. Speaking of Facade, he is the current Super Indy Champion. As the brackets show, the winner of this match will battle Facade in the semifinal round. Gory and Facade have been feuding since December of last year (Gory turned on Facade after he won the Super Indy Title) and their only singles match thus far has ended in a disqualification – you do the math. I think Gory is the overwhelming favorite to win this match as he has unfinished business with Facade. Prediction: Gory

This will most likely end up being the most intriguing first round match to a majority of people. O’Reilly and Taylor do not get many chances to even appear on the same card, let alone wrestle each other. I expect Taylor to scream like a girl a lot during this match. O’Reilly has been extremely impressive in other promotions besides Ring of Honor and he usually wins over crowds without much problem. I’m confident that he will do the same to the most likely unfamiliar IWC crowd. It seems like both men’s styles will complement each other nicely and I cannot see this being anything but a solid contest. The winner will almost surely face Davey Richards in the semifinal round. While I think it’d be awesome to see a Richards/Taylor encounter (much in the vein of El Generico vs. Adam Cole from last year’s Super Indy), the safe money is on O’Reilly to advance for reasons I’ll speculate about soon. Prediction: Kyle O’Reilly

Aiden Veil made his professional wrestling debut in August of 2011. He lost a Super Indy qualifying match to Gory in January of this year. However, Chuck Roberts gave him another chance to qualify and Veil took advantage of the opportunity by rolling up John McChesney last month to take McChesney’s spot in the tournament. Veil certainly has room for improvement, but the kid has a lot of heart and determination. I sound like some high school football coach. Long story short, Richards is going to run through Veil. Say what you want about Richards’ in-ring style, but watching him trample Veil will be entertaining and I actually think this is a fine way to use Richards in the tournament. Richards will advance to the semifinals without question, but I don’t see him going to the finals, considering he’s main-eventing an iPPV the next day. Additionally, the winner of this tournament also becomes the Super Indy champion and I can't see Richards making frequent appearances in IWC. How are we going to get Richards out of this tournament? I do not want to speculate about wrestlers’ attitudes or whatever else, but I could only see Richards losing to his protégé. And I don’t necessarily think Richards/O’Reilly would be a bad matchup. Prediction: Davey Richards

The final first round match is the one that I am most looking forward to witnessing live. I cannot find any record of these two ever having a singles match together and that's extremely surprising as all signs point to them meshing really well in the ring. Both Callihan and RSP enjoy beating people up, but they try to accomplish that goal in their own unique ways. Looking at the bracket, the winner of this match will wrestle an entrant that is “to be determined” in the semifinals. Logan Shulo qualified for Super Indy in January, but won the IWC World Heavyweight Title in March. Chuck Roberts, the owner of IWC, does not want Shulo competing in the tournament because he has a title defense against John McChesney on the same night. The idea is that Roberts does not want to give McChesney a better chance of winning the title by facing a tired champion, so he removed Shulo from the tournament. As a result, Shulo gets to pick his replacement. If you've been reading my IWC DVD reviews, you know that RSP has a bit of a problem with Shiima Xion and I’d have to think a surprise appearance from Xion would make a lot of sense here. Bracketing those storyline developments for a second, I have faith that this encounter between Callihan and RSP could end up being the match of the night. Prediction: Rickey Shane Page

I’ve done my best to give everyone guidance when they analyze the betting lines for Super Indy XI. I have a feeling that was a joke that Jerome would hate, so I’ll explain myself. I thought the joke was funny because there aren’t any betting lines for Super Indy XI. Anyway, here’s how I see the rest of the tournament shaping up, assuming Shiima Xion is the “to be determined” entrant (and that’s a big assumption):

Semifinal Round: Gory defeats Facade
Semifinal Round: Kyle O’Reilly defeats Davey Richards
Semifinal Round: Shiima Xion defeats Rickey Shane Page
Final Round: Gory defeats Kyle O’Reilly and Shiima Xion, last pinning Xion (his former partner) to win the title and the tournament.

In addition to the tournament itself, there are two non-tournament matches including Logan Shulo defending the IWC World Heavyweight Title against John McChesney and a five-way elimination match to determine a new #1 contender to the IWC World Heavyweight Title. I just wanted to mention that Dalton Castle is apart of the five-way elimination match and I cannot say enough good things about him. He’s made appearances in AIW and Wrestling is Fun and I have a feeling that we’ll be seeing a lot more of Dalton Castle in the next few years. The man dead-lift german suplexed Brodie Lee for crying out loud.

I want to thank anyone who stuck with me throughout this preview, especially those that chuckled at the joke about the betting lines. Super Indy XI will take place on June 23rd at the Court Time Sports Center in Elizabeth, PA. This venue is located just outside of Pittsburgh and it’s a great place to watch a pro wrestling show.
