Hey readers, we’re back with another VWAA DVD review. I want to apologize as we’ve gotten a lot of tweets and emails asking me about when this particular event was going to be reviewed. I’ve had this DVD for a bit, so no fault at all to VWAA just a few changes in my schedule and regular life getting in the way of good wrestling as always. But enough of my pity party let’s delve into this.

I gotta say before the review of the matches start that as always this will not be a regular play by play DVD review. Instead you will get overall thoughts on the matches, some details here and there but I do like to give thoughts on the product itself, not necessarily tell you what happened as I encourage all of you to check this out for yourself via http://VWAAwrestling.com where you can order it on VOD for only $6. Yep that’s right, $6 and with talent such as Colt Cabana, Isaias Velazquez, Thomas Sinclair, & Lamar Titan you get your moneys worth for sure so be sure to check that out now before you even read this because it won’t stay $6 forever. Also I have to commend VWAA as they present a very good product. The quality of the video is great, the video packages are always top notch. They also do the little things such as put up banners in the arenas and set up lighting rigs in proper places. It shows a pride in their product that really stands out and that’s not something I can say about all top indy feds right now so I would be sure to put VWAA on your radar if it’s not already.

On a side note they have not run a show since this event so you are not behind by checking this out now. They are preparing for their next season and they have big things planned from what I’m told so don’t worry about the timing of this event. I will suggest checking out the rest of my VWAA DVD reviews that lead up to this one if you care to but this is the end of the season and thus one of their biggest shows of the year. Alright let’s get into this.

Doors, Ladders, & Chairs (DLC) for the VWAA Frontline Medal
Jordan Pryde (m) vs Joe Firoz vs Cedric Keys v Joey Marx

Three of these men have been broiled in feuds for most of the year in Joey Marx, Pryde, & Firoz where as Keys for the most part was involved in the main event picture for a bit but these guys know how to bring the crowd to their feet. This being a DLC match with the use of doors, ladders, and chairs is just something fun to add but really things between three of the four participants have built to this level of hatred so it’s clear that they want the Frontline Medal. Pryde brings that arrogance that really makes you want to kill him from the moment you see him and his look just screams ass so it’s clear that the guys in the ring will be focused on him. His Iron Fist though is something to keep a look out for, whether or not it’s a loaded glove or not. Firoz & Marx are the two high flyers of the four and the start things off hot and heavy but Pryde is the one who introduces the first chair usage and as the Frontline Medalist he’s got to be the one to bring it. If you doubt the gimmick, yes their are literally doors instead of tables in use here where as Marx literally jumps over the top rope and leg scissors Pryde into a door that was set up ring side. This match is nuts and tons of innovative action that you have to see to believe including a ladder suspended in between and ladder in the ring and a ladder outside the ring. Yep you read that correctly. Bumaye would come into the ring and spit a mist into Pryde’s face and in a match where anything goes this has to be allowed. Bumaye helps Marx put Pryde across a door and land a 450 splash from the top of a ladder to win the Frontline Medal. Crazy match people. For $6 this is worth it alone.

VWAA Tag Team Championship
Incredibly Amazin’ (Atlas J. Horn & Amazin’ Kuan)
vs
Insane Evil (Dysfunction & Chase McCoy)

Horn & Kuan are beloved by the crowd and are basically the 2012 version of Men on a Mission. Fun stuff but Dysfunction & McCoy are not going to have an easy night ahead of them as all four men are brawlers. This is my first time seeing Dysfunction and McCoy and they have some great tandem moves including a spear/Russian leg sweep combination. Not much to this match to be honest as the champions retain the tag belts.

Father vs Son
Special Guest Referee, Ivan Manson
Frankie Valiant w/ Jay J. Valiant
vs
Lee Valiant w/ Virgil Davis

This is a family feud within VWAA that long time fans have seen a lot of the backstory while I have not truly gotten into this but for what it is, it’s something that that shows the variety that VWAA brings to it’s fanbase. This is going to be a schmoze from the get go and it really doesn’t pick up from their but that is nothing against the two guys in the ring, just I am unfamiliar with the whole backstory to this but it’s obvious that the fans understand it. Lee Valiant is quite the talent and it’s just a fun match to sit back and see a father teach his son tough love. The wrestling in this isn’t pretty but there is more to this than the moves, it’s the story they are telling but it is what it is. Lee wins via a ddt onto a street sign and pins his father.

Grudge Match
“Born to Wrestle” Thomas Sinclair w/ Dr. Pinder
vs
“The Definition” Isaias Velazquez

These two guys have had some awesome matches in VWAA and with Isaias getting a shot in AAW recently, I really hope that Thomas Sinclair gets a similar shot in other promotions as both of these men are tremendous in ring talents. They have awesome matches together from a technical stand point and Isaias’ match against Ricochet would be in my top 25 matches of the year to check out. I’ve been able to watch Sinclair’s evolution as a talent and it’s obvious this guy is hungry. It’s great to see these two in the ring as they have their own innovations including their own tweaks on the Malenko/Geurrero pinning sequence and fluid transitions from the Lucha style to strong style wrestling in ways that would be impressive to any crowd. These are the guys I watch VWAA for and while I can’t say I’m able to catch all the action in their matches quick enough to put to this report, trust me when I say that you will feel you spent your $6 well if you purchase this on VOD and watch this match. This match has to be the match of the night if not of the year for VWAA. Isaias Velazquez defeats Thomas Sinclair after THREE Hammers of Dawn which are basically double underhook piledrivers. Such an awesome match.

Best of 5 Series (Final Match)
John E. Kash (2)
vs
Freek (2)

I’ve said in the past that these two guys are fun wrestlers to watch. They are akin to Chuck Taylor & Delirious so you can imagine the fun matches they have with each other. This is the end to a Best of Five series. Both men start off on the cautious side as neither wants to come out the loser after being so close to winning the series and so it would seem the technical wrestling is coming out in this match whereas before they were a little more willing to take risks. But it’s still a fun match and a good one to bring the crowd down after that great match between Isaias & Sinclair. Freek wins via submission.

VWAA Circuit Championship
“Old School Brawler” Rick Walsh (c)
vs
Former WWE Superstar, Colt “Boom Boom” Cabana

This is the match that I think many fans were happy to see. Colt Cabana vs Rick Walsh for the Circuit Championship. Too bad Matt Classic couldn’t be booked for this match instead. Hopefully Colt come back for the next season as his style of wrestling I think fits in very well with the VWAA style of wrestling. I really don’t think I have to say anything about this match. If you’re a fan of Colt, then you will get your money’s worth here. Good stuff from both men. Walsh puts on the best match I’ve seen him in and not just because he’s in there with Colt but it’s got to be one of the longer matches I’ve seen him in and perhaps it’s the best from a story telling stand point. Rick Walsh got a controversial win to retain the Circuit title but hopefully this means Cabana will be coming back to VWAA.

VWAA Championship Rematch
“God of War” Lamar Titan
vs
“The Cleric” Matthias Kelevra (c)

This is a match nine months in the making. Kelevra is just a monster of a man and Lamar Titan is a tremendous talent who also is getting a look at from other top indy promotions. VWAA is one of the best story telling promotions out there right now and when it comes to their VWAA Championship feud, there are VERY few who have captured my attention like this one. If you’ve read my past VWAA DVD reviews then you know that Kelevra is a huge test for Titan and after losing the title to him, this has got to be a chance Lamar won’t take lightly as their are other talents who are in line to go after the mountain that is Kelevra. Kelevra is also very different and in this sense he’s different in a good way. He’s got a presence and look that really stands out and I’ll be interested to see what’s coming in the new season of VWAA. On a side note I really like the little thing that VWAA did here which is focus the light on the ring and darken the crowd to give this a main event fight feel. Little things make a difference to me and I’m sure any reader of this appreciates those kinds of attention to details too. This match is just some of the better story telling in any wrestling promotion. Kelevra is being showcased as the monster he is while a talent who has shown how tough he is in Titan is really showing a toughness not many men have. I won’t spoil too much for you as I don’t want to discourage you from checking this awesome event but it’s one that has to be a must buy for any wrestling fan. Kelevra retains after a grueling battle.

Overall: The DVD is $15 but at the current time of this writing you can still get this on VOD for only $6. Either price is well worth the action you get on this DVD. Between the matches of Isaias/Sinclair & the opening contest to the Walsh/Cabana & main event of Kelevra/Titan you get more than $15 worth of in ring content to keep you awed. A must own for any wrestling fan. You may not recognize all the names on here, but VWAA is a promotion that deserves your attention. If you’re not too happy with some of the other top indy promotions right now, VWAA would be an easy one to get into, especially with their willingness to give you fans some of the best wrestling for very little from your wallet.
