IMPACT Wrestling Preview:

With four days to go until their biggest show of the year, TNA is pulling out all stops to hype up Bound For Glory. TNA World Champion Austin Aries will be in action against James Storm while Aries’ BFG opponent Jeff Hardy will take on Storm’s BFG opponent Bobby Roode. TNA Knockouts Champion Miss Tessmacher will take on Gail Kim in a non-title match to warm up for her title defense at BFG and don’t be surprised if her opponent Tara shows up to get a few shots in and better her chances for Sunday. TV Champion Samoa Joe, AJ Styles, Chavo Guerrero Jr., and many others are also scheduled to appear as the final countdown to Bound For Glory begins tonight!

Previously on IMPACT: Bobby Roode runs into King Mo and Hulk Hogan and Sting agree to let Bully Ray help them at Bound For Glory.

The pyro goes off as the camera surveys the Impact Zone crowd. Mike Tenay runs down the two big matches happening tonight.

“SORRY…’bout your damn luck!”

James Storm makes his way out for the opening contest of the night. His opponent, TNA World Champion Austin Aries, makes his way out next. Interesting match to begin the show.

Match #1: [TNA World Champion] Austin Aries Vs. “The Cowboy” James Storm

They lock up and Aries backs him into the corner. Clean break. Aries basks in the crowd’s cheers. Lock up #2 results in a wristlock by Aries. He transitions into a headlock takedown but Storm quickly escapes. Aries and Storm go for a test of strength but Aries kicks him and applies a side headlock. Storm reverses into a headlock of his own. Storm gets whipped into the ropes and takes Aries down with an armdrag. Aries exits the ring to regroup himself.

Back inside, Aries applies another side headlock. Aries gets thrown into the corner but he jumps over Storm and hits a shoulder block. Aries tries to keep it up but Storm hits a forearm to stop the momentum. Storm follows it up with a couple of rights. Aries tries to throw him over the rope, but Storm skins the cat. Aries slides out and Storm goes for a dive but Aries rolls back in quickly. In the confusion, Aries hits him with a splash through the second rope. Excellent combo of moves.

Aries continues the offense in the ring and applies a front chinlock. Storm fights to his feet and hits Aries with a jawbreaker to break the hold. Storm lays into Aries with a series of rights and whips him into the corner. Aries gets his foot up and hits an open hand chop on Storm. Storm reverses Aries into the corner and hits a chop of his own, but Aries reverses him back into the corner, hits a chop, and then a Missile Dropkick to a seated Storm from the second rope.

Storm attempts a splash but gets an elbow to the face. Storm tries again immediately and hits a clothesline in the corner. Storm gets a series of second rope punches but Aries pushes him off and goes for some of his own. Storm knocks him off and hits a russian legsweep. The two trade fists in the center of the ring and Storm hits an uppercut to win the exchange. Aries escapes the Eye of the Storm and ends up on the apron. He drops Storm throat-first on the top rope. Aries goes to the top but misses a Missile Dropkick. Storm attempts the Last Call but Aries pushes him off. Storm escapes the Brainbuster and rolls through a pinning attempt to try to tie him up. Aries pushes him into the ropes and both men collide head-first into one another.

Bobby Roode comes to ringside as the ref is distracted with Aries. He throws Storm into the ring post and rolls him back in. Unaware of the interference, Aries takes advantage and connects with the Brainbuster for the 1…2…3!

Winner [via Pinfall]: Austin Aries (7:20)

  • A hell of a fun match to start the show. The two worked a quick pace and to be honest I had a hard time trying to keep up with the action. Really good work by both men. Roode’s interference was a downer but was ultimately necessary. There was no way a clean pinfall was going to happen. (B+)

Wes Brisco is with Kurt Angle backstage and the Olympic Gold Medalist agrees to let him tag along. AJ Styles barges into the dressing room as Brisco leaves. He questions Angle’s priorities and if his head is in the game for the triple threat match this Sunday. He storms off and Angle says that Daniels and Kazarian are playing him.

Hulk Hogan and Sting are headed to the ring to publicly talk with Bully Ray…after the commercial!

*Commercial Break*

Bound For Glory Memories (2011:): Sting beats Hulk Hogan and brings him back to the light side of the Force.

“Not Quite the nWo Theme” hits, bringing out Hulk Hogan and Sting. They make their way to the ring and Hogan grabs a mic. He alludes to having a “situation” over the past week which is pretty funny. Hogan hypes up the tag match for Sunday, and Sting snatches the mic from him. Sting reminds viewers of the end of last week’s show, where Bully Ray took Mr. Anderson‘s place as his partner. Hogan says they had to make a deal with the devil.

Their rambling promo is interrupted by TNA World Tag Team Champions Christopher Daniels and Frankie Kazarian. They quickly head to the ring. Daniels says they are days away from Bound For Glory but they can still right the ship. Daniels says out of all the members of TNA Locker Room they picked the most untrustworthy guy to team with Sting. He asks why they didn’t pick everyone’s favorite tag team to go against the Aces and 8’s. Kazarian says they are come to a solution to the issue: 1) cancel their tag match on Sunday, 2) get rid of Bully Ray, and 3) replace Ray with Kurt Angle.

Kazarian’s plea is interrupted by the music of Bully Ray who angrily walks to the ring. Ray tells Daniels to never talk about his “brother” again. Ray says Angle would have been a great choice for a wrestling match, but the Aces and 8’s tag match is going to be a fight and he’s the baddest muthatrucka in TNA. Ray says he doesn’t need to Hogan or Sting’s friend, he needs to be their partner and have their back. Ray says they share a common business: getting rid of the Aces and 8’s. Ray proposes a way to prove his loyalty to Hogan: he and Sting should face Daniels and Kazarian here TONIGHT!

Naturally, Daniels and Kazarian freak out at the suggestion. Hogan agrees and makes Ray/Sting Vs. Daniels/Kazarian the main event for tonight! Daniels and Kazarian continue to protest as we go to commercial.

  • Thoughts: Good segment once Hogan and Sting were joined by far better talkers. Interesting main event for tonight’s show signed; they are really throwing everything but the kitchen sink on this go home show. I approve.

*Commercial Break*

Hernandez makes his way out for the second match, accompanied by his tag partner Chavo Guerrero Jr. Mike Tenay and Taz put over the triple threat tag team title match this Sunday. His opponent tonight, AJ Styles, comes out next. His partner for this Sunday’s match, Kurt Angle, isn’t with him. CUE DRAMATIC MUSIC.

Match #2: AJ Styles Vs. Hernandez (w/ Chavo Guerrero Jr.)

Hernandez tries to jump Styles, but he moves and Hernandez gets nothing but turnbuckle. Styles kicks Hernandez in the hamstring but Hernandez pushes him to the mat. Styles gets up and kicks Hernandez’s legs out from under him in the corner. Styles jaws with Guerrero. Hernandez tries to take advantage but Styles uses his quickness to avoid it. He attempts a sunset flip but Hernandez lifts him up. Styles breaks out and kicks him in the side of the head. Styles once again jaws with Guerrero ringside. Styles misses a splash in the corner and Hernandez takes advantage. He hurls Styles into the opposite corner, and the resulting impact (ha) causes Styles to fall to the mat.

Hernandez dead lifts Styles and locks him in a bearhug. Styles elbows his way out and starts fighting back, but runs into a clothesline by “SuperMex”. Hernandez pushes him into the ropes and goes for a powerslam but Styles slips out and hits a beautiful dropkick. Styles hits a running dropkick, which sends Hernandez through the ropes and to the outside. Styles launches himself onto Hernandez and once again he and Guerrero start jawing back and forth.

Styles rolls Hernandez back in but Hernandez ducks a springboard move and hits a running shoulder block out of nowhere for the 1…2…3!

Winner [via Pinfall]: Hernandez (3:54)

  • Decent match given its short time. Helped continue to build the triple threat match for Sunday. The absence of Angle was also interesting; I enjoy a little dissent in my tag team matches. (B-)

“The President” of the Aces and 8’s is live/taped from the Clubhouse. He shows that Joseph Park is okay (Park desperately eats the Chinese food he’s been given). “The President” says Hogan choosing Bully Ray was a surprise, but it’s still something they can overcome. He says that a couple of weeks ago, he asked Hogan if he locked them out or locked them in and tonight they may test that. Either way, “The President” says Hogan will see them this Sunday.

  • Thoughts: Okay Aces and 8’s promo that hints that they may show up on the show tonight and Park frantically eating the Chinese food was unintentionally funny. I don’t know. This storyline is what it is. I’m hoping for some legitimate progression on Sunday.

*Commercial Break*

TNA X-Division Champion Zema Ion graces us with his presence as we come back from commercial. Tenay puts over that Ion’s goal is to eliminate all competition by any means necessary. He’s wearing street clothes so we’re not getting a match. Ion gets in the ring and grabs a mic. He says that he’s living proof that being humble gets people nowhere in life. He says he’s ended careers and broken necks for the X-Division title. Ion says his accomplishments feel bittersweet because he doesn’t have a match at Bound For Glory because there’s no X-Division since he’s taken them out.

Immediately after Ion says his catchphrase, the music of Rob Van Dam hits and out he comes. RVD says that he doesn’t have a match at Bound For Glory either and he said that Hulk Hogan told him he could pick an opponent for this Sunday. RVD hits a spin kick on Ion and lifts the X-Division title in the air. RVD says “see you in Phoenix” to Ion then exits the ring.

  • Thoughts: A crappy and rushed build yes, but at least the X-Division will have a spot on Bound For Glory. An Ion/RVD match interests me and when Ion beats him after RVD showboats, it’ll make him look good. Ion is right though; there seriously isn’t an X-Division right now. That’s depressing.

Hulk Hogan’s Office

Hulk Hogan is expressing doubts about Bully Ray and Sting says they don’t have a better option. Bully Ray walks in and asks Sting if they’re ready because they’re next. Ray stops and asks what Hogan’s issue is. Hogan says he doesn’t trust Ray. They argue with one another until Sting shuts them up. He says Ray needs Hogan’s endorsement. Hogan says Ray has one chance tonight and Ray says he won’t let them down. Sting says he better not and exits.

  • Thoughts: Didn’t they say this was going to be the main event tonight? Oh well. Nice little segment between the three guys; Ray is really killing it promo-wise lately.

*Commercial Break*

Backstage, Brooke Hogan is talking with Taryn Terrell about the drama between Miss Tessmacher and Tara. Tara comes in as Terrell leaves. She hands Brooke a media list and says that her “Hollywood” boyfriend will be in Phoenix on Sunday. Tara then requests an A-list green room because she’s going to be the Knockouts Champion, but Brooke shoots her down and says Tara isn’t champion yet and she’ll have to earn it. Brooke rips up the list and Tara leaves in a huff.

  • Thoughts: …Okay. An okay segment made watchable by Tara. Really dig her character and I’m semi-interested to see who her “Hollywood” boyfriend ends up being.

The TNA World Tag Team Champions Christopher Daniels and Frankie Kazarian make their way out. Bully Ray makes his way out next and chases them from the ring. His partner Sting makes his way to the Impact Zone as we head to commercial.

*Commercial Break*

Match #3: Sting/Bully Ray Vs. [TNA World Tag Team Champions] Christopher Daniels/Frankie Kazarian

Ray and Daniels start off. Daniels kicks him in the gut and applies a side headlock. Ray whips him into the ropes and takes him down with a shoulder block. Ray follows it up with a clothesline and headbutts to the chest in the corner. Ray chops Daniels hard in the chest and Daniels does a million dollar job of selling it. Ray teases splashing him in the corner, but stops and chops him once again. Ray sends Daniels into another corner face-first, then works over his left arm. He asks the crowd if they want Sting and leads a “Sting” chant. Sting tags in and lays into Daniels.

Sting whips Daniels into the ropes and delivers a hip toss followed by a clothesline. Sting goes for the pin. 2-count. Daniels hits Sting in the gut and tags to Kazarian. Sting meets him with a hip toss and Ray tags back in. They whip Kazarian into the ropes and hit a double hip toss. Ray knocks Daniels off the apron and clotheslines Kazarian. Ray hits a back suplex and goes for the pin. 2-count. Ray chops Kazarian in the corner, and he falls like a stack of bricks.

Sting tags back in and hits a suplex. He goes for the pin. 2-count. Ray tags back in and he and Sting hit Kazarian with a double clothesline. Ray connects with a suplex and tags Sting back in. Sting hits a Stinger Splash in one corner, but misses in the other. Daniels rams Sting crotch-first into the steel post as the ref is distracted. Sting is knocked to the outside and the tag champs continue the attack. Ray chases them with a steel chair.

Back in the ring, Daniels continues beating Sting down. They set Sting up in the corner and they double team him as the ref is distracted by Ray. Daniels tags in Kazarian. Daniels hits a slingshot elbow and Kazarian follows it up with a slingshot legdrop for a 2-count. Kazarian locks Sting up in a wear-down hold. Sting breaks out and hits the ropes, but Kazarian catches him with a spinning heel kick. Daniels tags in and stomps on him. Daniels goes for the pin. 2-count. Daniels heads to the top rope, but Sting catches him and tosses him off. Daniels quickly gets back up and he and Sting double clothesline one another.

Ray gets the hot tag and lays into the tag team champions. Backdrops for both Daniels and Kazarian. Ray whips Kazarian into Daniels in the corner and splashes both. Ray hits a Samoan drop on Kazarian. The pinning attempt is broken up by Daniels and Sting comes in to even the odds. Ray and Daniels end up on the outside, and Sting throws Kazarian over the top and onto the floor. Daniels rolls in and attempts to hit Sting with the belt, but Ray runs in and catches him with a boot. Sting then pushes Ray out of the way and catches Kazarian in the midsection as he comes off the top rope. Sting then tells Ray to “get the tables” and Ray accommodates his partner.

Ray sets up in the table in the ring. Sting delivers Daniels to Ray on the second rope and Ray powerbombs him through the table. The ref calls for the DQ.

Winners [via Disqualification]: Christopher Daniels/Frankie Kazarian (10:06)

  • Does Ray know how to work a crowd or what? Sting and Bully Ray made one hell of a team and they had the crowd in the palm of their hands. I wouldn’t be surprised if they had the Impact Zone vibrating. Good match, good teamwork, definitely made Sting/Ray look like a formidable duo. Too bad Ray trying too hard to be a good guy makes a screwjob on Sunday seem even more like a reality. (B)

Bound For Glory Hype Video: Austin Aries/Jeff Hardy

We go to a Jeff Hardy promo shot earlier in the day. He says that he will gives the creatures what they want by becoming the next World Champion at Bound For Glory. With that win he will become the best wrestler in the world.

  • Thoughts: Keeping Hardy away from the mic as much as possible has been a good move on TNA’s part, and this brief promo made sure he didn’t wear out his welcome. Aries/Hardy should be an awesome match.

IMPACT Hype: Miss Tessmacher faces Gail Kim, next!

Bound For Glory Hype/Feud Recap: Sting/Bully Ray Vs. The Aces and 8’s

Bound For Glory Hype/Feud Recap: Al Snow Vs. Joey Ryan

TV Champion Samoa Joe is stopped by the mysterious interviewer. Joe talks about Magnus and says that he’s jealous. Magnus barges his way in and tells the mystery interviewer that he decided to push his segment to now. Magnus says that Joe won’t be able to hide behind the politics on Sunday. Joe says they should fight tonight. Magnus calls the suggestion “original” and says he’s a businessman and wants people to pay money to see him win the TV Title. Magnus says he’s Bound For Glory and leaves.

  • Thoughts: Good promo work from both men, especially Magnus. Magnus has the potential to be a World Champion; good on the mic, good in the ring. Whole package.

Gail Kim makes her way out for the next match. Her opponent is TNA Knockouts Champion Miss Tessmacher who comes out next. This is a non-title affair.

Match #4: [TNA Knockouts Champion] Miss Tessmacher Vs. Gail Kim

Kim attacks Tessmacher right at the bell and chokes her with her boot in the corner. Kim hits a running clothesline in the corner and knocks her to the mat with a forearm. Kim whips her back into the corner but Tessmacher moves from an attempted splash. She drops Kim with a headscissor takedown and goes for the Stink Face but Kim escapes to the floor. Kim argues with ref Taryn Terrell. Kim tags Tessmacher with a backbreaker and continues her offense. Kim whips Tessmacher into the corner and throws herself right into Tessmacher’s midsection. Tessmacher starts fighting back with a series of forearms but Kim kicks her down. Kim rubs her butt in Tessmacher’s face. Kay. Kim hits the ropes and tries for some sort of knee smash but Tessmacher grabs her legs and slingshots her into the corner. Tessmacher hits an elbow and starts beating her down into the corner.

Tessmacher hits Kim with a running clothesline and then slams her hard to the mat head-first. Tessmacher heads to the top rope but Kim crotches her. Kim picks her off the top turnbuckle and goes for a Samoan drop but Tessmacher turns it into a pinning combo. 2-count. Kim grabs a running Tessmacher and hits a sitdown power bomb. Tessmacher fights back though and hits a front-face suplex for the 1…2…3!

Winner [via Pinfall]: Miss Tessmacher (5:30)

  • A far more competitive match than I was expecting and that’s a good thing. But as much as they want Tessmacher to look good…Kim was the one pulling the better offense and showing that she was the better wrestler. Oh well. All well that ends well. (C+)

Tara immediately comes out and attacks Tessmacher from behind. Tara attempts the Widow’s Peak but Tessmacher wiggles out and hits her front-face suplex. Tessmacher yells at the fallen Tara then Terrell raises her hand in victory.

Bobby Roode is in the locker room cutting a promo on James Storm when Storm walks in. He says he knows that he attacked him earlier during his match with Aries and asks Roode if he wants to try that again. Roode says he has a match against Jeff Hardy tonight and goes to leave. Storm traps Roode against the lockers with his forearm and says Roode will have to kill him to beat him. King Mo comes out of nowhere to separate the two. Roode leaves and Mo tells Storm to save it for the ring.

  • Thoughts: King Mo looked like a real person this time! Good and intense confrontation between the two. Looking forward to this match even though the feud has been harshly devalued over the past few months.

*Commercial Break*

The music of Jeff Hardy hits and you can already hear the shrieking of his female fans before he even makes his way out. Hardy makes his way out and circles the ring to greet his many fans. He hugs the fans dressed like him. Roode comes out and attacks Hardy before the bell. He throws Hardy into the barricade twice and continues his assault. Roode rolls Hardy in and the bell rings.

Main Event: Jeff Hardy Vs. Bobby Roode

Roode beats Hardy down in the corner as the match finally starts. Roode showboats to the crowd which allows Hardy to come out of nowhere with a flurry of offense. Hardy hits a reverse atomic drop then drops his legs into Roode’s midsection. He dropkicks the sitting Roode and goes for the pin. 2-count. Hardy traps Roode in an armlock, and Roode pushes him into the corner. Roode connects with a cheap shot knee to the midsection. Roode takes a second to regroup, then heads out to continue the punishment. Hardy blocks a suplex attempt and delivers one of his own on the floor. Both men struggle to recover as we go to commercial.

*Commercial Break*

The action is back in the ring as we come back from commercial. We see clips of the brawl during the commercial break. Roode stalks over the fallen Hardy and applies a head vice. He turns it into a front facing headlock. Hardy gets to his feet and fights out. He hits the ropes and runs into an elbow courtesy of Roode. Roode goes to the second rope and hits a Buff Blockbuster for the 1…2…KICK OUT. Roode argues with the referee and starts pacing around thinking up a new plan.

Hardy rolls out and Roode follows him. Roode slams Hardy face-first into the ring steps and rolls him back in. Roode picks him up and connects with a reverse neckbreaker. He goes for the pin. 2-count. Hardy starts fighting back again but runs into a sleeperhold. Roode brings Hardy down to the mat. The ref raises Hardy’s arm. It falls. He does it a second time. It falls again. On the third check, Hardy keeps his arm up and backs him into the corner. Roode keeps the sleeperhold applied. Hardy rams him into the corner again but Roode still won’t let go. Finally Hardy sends Roode head-first into the turnbuckles to break the hold and Hardy follows it up with the Whisper in the Wind from the top rope.

Winner [via Disqualification]: Jeff Hardy (16:18)

  • I really enjoyed this match, and thought both men worked their asses off. Some good action and drama, and the fact that TNA didn’t throw in 600 commercial breaks during it was also a plus. The screwjob ending wasn’t a surprise, but Storm not coming out was. Glad to see the main event of a wrestling show being given this much time. (B)

Roode grabs a chair from the outside and goes back into the ring. He tries to hit Hardy but the ref pulls it out of his hands. Hardy hits the Twist of Fate on Roode to knock him out. Hardy takes off his shirt and the ref raises his hand in the air. Austin Aries comes out with a mic. He says he isn’t letting the night end with Hardy in the ring. He says he isn’t going to say what “the sheet” tells him too and crumples it up. Aries gets in the ring and says TNA officials have been telling him what to do since he became World Champion. Aries said that as of now, all of that crap is done with. Aries says that he isn’t completely jealous of Hardy and says he isn’t jealous of his rap sheet or his crippled body. Aries says he is jealous that TNA caters to Hardy and he’s tired of it.

Aries says he’s been set up to fail and although he’s asked for new music and a new intro, TNA has instead made Jeff Hardy videos. Aries says he might be being set up to fail but he’s always worked best when it’s him against the world. He says that the only failure at Bound For Glory is going to be Hardy. Hardy gets on the mic and says his nuts and neck hurt and he will end Aries’ cocky ass this Sunday. Aries says he’s going to give Hardy one last moment to soak in the adulation of his fans. Hardy does so. Aries then asks Hardy to leave so he can bask in his own glory. Hardy goes to oblige, but Aries attacks him from behind and hits the Brainbuster. Aries yells at the crowd and holds the belt up as we fade to logo.

  • Thoughts: Excellent mic work by Aries to finally turn him fully heel. The whole “I’m going off script” thing was a bit cheesy and Hardy saying that his nuts hurt was stupid, but Aries still pulled it off. He showed a real fire (like, say, a certain Straight Edge superstar…) and his attack on Hardy was a good way to end the show and give the Aries/Hardy match some much needed heat. I just wish they did that earlier in their feud. Would’ve given the match a bigger edge and a longer time to gestate.

Overall Show Grade: B

Best Match: Austin Aries Vs. James Storm

  • Worst Match: Miss Tessmacher Vs. Gail Kim
  • Best Segment: Austin Aries turns heel (finally)
  • Worst Segment: Tara/Brooke Hogan/Taryn Terrell
