Premeiere Wrestling Xperience
Living on the Edge
1-11-13

When last we saw the talent of Premiere Wresting Xperience,  a new regime was taking it’s pace at the top of the ladder. Eddie Edwards and Roderick Strong defeated The Great Outdoor for the PWX tag team titles, and Adam Cole defeated PWX champion Caleb Konley to win the PWX Heavyweight championship. As the year came to a close, The Dojo Bros let PWX know they were the best and that no one could beat them. Fast forward to January 11, a new year and a new venue for PWX but the feuds had only gotten more tense since the last time the talents of one of the best Indy promotions of 2012 got together. Coud the Dojo Bros come through on their promise to beat anyone at anytime? Who will be the breakout star for PWX in 2013? Let’s take a look at the first of many great events from PWX and as always the following is……………..

Chiva Kid vs Corey Hollis

In December, Hollis & Chiva took part in a 6 man scramble match to determine 2013’s breakout star. Holis feels like he was robbed in that match, having hit his finisher only to see Chiva hit an amaing 720 off the top and steal the victory. Hollis started off agressive on the crowd favorite “goat boy” and the action spilled outside. Corey Hollis stayed on top of Chiva doing anything he could to put him away and get the victory back he felt he was robbed of just a month ago. Chiva fed off the live energy of the crowd and fought back but was cut off when attempting to get to the top for a high risk move. Hollis smartly kept Chiva grounded and attacked the legs, finally applying a stretch muffler. Just as it seemed Hollis would get his win back,Chiva reversed the hold into a cradle to pick up a huge first win of the new year.

#1MansOpinion: Hollis and Chiva are definitely at the top of the list for PWX breakout star of 2013. This was a very good opener from a contrast of two different but talented guys. Hollis is as technically proficient as anyone in the SouthEast and Chiva brings an unmatched exciting offense and is incredibly over with the crowd. This isn’t the last you’ll hear from either of these guys as I’m sure Hollis still has a goal to get his win back from Chiva. *** 1/4

A video was shown in the arena of PWX Owner Tyshionn Williams asking to speak with Davey Richards about facing the Dojo Bros at Rise of a Champion VIII in February. More to come on that later

Tag Match
Worst Case Scenario defeated The Elements of Wrestling

This was a bonus tag match consisting of four men who impressed at an earlier seminar given by Roderick Strong & Eddie Edwards. I apologize as I was unable to get individual names of the men participating. Alll four guys worked well in the time they were given here and could earn themselves a second look from PWX in the future.

“Mr. Elite” Drew Myers vs Leech Landa
Myers has improved each time he’s stepped into the ring over the last year and at the first event of 2013 he showed he may have come full circle with a dominating win of PWX newcomer Leech Landa. Myers utilized his amateur style to ground his speedy opponent and threw perfect suplexes that crumpled Landa on more than one occasion. In the end Mr Elite hit a bridging german suplex to pick up the quick victory.

#1MansOpinion: A dominating performance from Mr. Elite who is another guy I feel should be considered amongst the breakout stars for 2013 in PWX. I look forward to seeing Myers in higher profile matches with more experienced opponents in the coming year as he has a great look and has really stepped up his in ring games since I first saw him 18 months ago. SCUM(Steve Corino & Jimmy Jacobs) vs Lodi & Zane Riley
Corino began appearing for PWX over the last half of 2012 having battles with Alex Avgerinos and Adam Page. On this night “The King of Old School” brought his ROH partner Jimmy Jacobs whom he held the ROH tag titles with until recently. In the other corner was Former WCW Superstar and Raven’s Flock member Lodi and Zane Riley, teaming for the first time. Riley and Lodi both ended 2012 getting victories in bitter feuds(Lodi with John Skyler and Zane with Craig Huffman) This tag match was a brawl and Riley & Lodi held their own with the former ROH tag champs for much of the match. Corino made a very specific threat to Lodi and followed through on that threat, taking advantage of Referee Mitch Blalock being distracted Corino used  a roll of quarters and hit a heart punch on Lodi to pick up the win for SCUM in their PWX debut.

#1MansOpinion: This was a good match, nothing bad but nothing overly great. Just a tag team brawl with little involvement from Jacobs and very few “big moves” or spots. Riley & Lodi made for an interesting team that I would like to see more of in the future. i wasn’t overly impressed with Jacobs in his PWX debut(who look really great when I saw him live for the first time at ROH’s Caged Hostility) Corino continues to be the best in the indies on the mic and is a definite assett in working with the younger talents of PWX. ** 1/4

Back from intermission and another video plays on the screen of PWX owner Tyshionn Williams, this time being bossed around by the Dojo Bros. Eddie, Roddy, and Cole were threatening Williams and say it doesn’t matter who he gets to face them because they can beat anyone, anytime.

4 Way
“Do or Die” Chip Day vs “The Southern Savior” John Skyler vs “Hard Knox” Craig Huffman vs “Cinderella Man” Ernie Osiris

This unannnounced matchup really picked the show up after intermission. Chip Day and John Skyler engaged in some nice back and forth action, while Osiris always goes full speed and gets great opportunity to showcase his in ring skills in PWX. Craig Huffman hung out on the apron, picking his spots to get shots in on his downed opponents and nearly stole the victory with his strategy. Osiris used his high risk, high reward offense to effectiveness until he was caught by Day with a kick to the jaw going through the middle rope. Osiris battled back and hit a twisting split leg moonsault on Day but The Southern Savior John Skyler slinked in and stole the big victory in a fast paced, high intensity match.

#1MansOpinion: Very good showing from all four guys here. Osiris continues to show he can go with anyone PWX puts in front of him and Day is one of the most brutal strikers in the SouthEast and possibly indy wrestling. Huffman, coming off his most prolific feud in PWX with Zane Riley continues to look for the next way to make an impact in PWX. John Skyler continues to prove why he is one of the most sought after talents in the southeast getting back on the winning track after coming up short in his bitter feud with Lodi. *** 1/2

Adam Page vs Cedric Alexander

Undoubtedly two guys who had the biggest years of their career in 2012 faced off in this co-main event of the evening and they did not disappoint. Alexander had pledged after beating Davey Richards in December, that he would never lose in his hometown again. Adam Page came into this first show of 2013 looking to make an impact of his own and did just that. Page kept Alexander frustrated throughout the whole match as nothing Cedric did could quite put away the young, hungry athlete from Aarons Creek, Virginia. As Alexander became more frustrated, Page took advantage and nearly got the victory several times but Alexander persisted and regained control. After a series of kicks and gaining a “second wind” Alexander looked to end the match with the Brainbuster but Page reversed it and got a quick pinfall and a huge victory to start off the new year.

#1MansOpinion: Easily two of the better talents in the southeast facing off here and as I said above they didn’t disappoint. It was a bit of a surprise to see Page go over here and this another feud that I don’t think we’ve seen the end of and that can only benefit the fans of PWX to see another match between these two athletes. *** 1/2
NOTE: Adam Page did suffer a broken hand in this matchup which he had surgery or on January 18. We wish the best to Adam for a speedy recovery.

Main Event 6 Man Tag Action
The Great Outdoors(Grizzly Redwood & “Manscout” Jake Manning) & Caleb Konley vs PWX Champion Adam Cole & PWX  Tag Champions Roderick Strong & Eddie Edwards

This was a match that we knew would be out of control from start to finish as the Dojo Bros looked to continue their reign of supremacy over PWX. Redwood, Konley & Manning wasted no time in following through on their promise to right the wrongs of triad fo champions from ROH. Eddie, Roddy, & Cole spent the early part fo the match trying to avoid the onslaught of their opponents and trying to keep the match at their pace. Finally, they did so isolating Grizzly Redwood and using triple teams and illegal tags to wear down the littlest lumberjack. Just as it seemed Grizzly may never get a tag he did so and all six men hit the ring as the match completely broke down. The Great Outdoors & Strong & Edwards fought to the outside and in the ring Caleb Konley got a measure of revenge for having his title stolen the previous month forcing Adam Cole to tap out to the “Oh! face” submission giving his team the win.

#1MansOpinion: MOTN Very good main event here with another surprising result. Caleb Konley looked as good as I’ve seen him in recent memory in this matchup and will make a formidable contender for Adam Cole’s title in the future. Manning & Redwood are very good together and despite the loss The Dojo Bros are what they say they are, 3 of the best in the business right now. *** 3/4

Post Show: PWX Owner Tyshionn Williams came out with a message for the Dojo Bros. Williams said he’d found a partner for Davey Richards at February’s Rise of a Champion VIII and asked to play the man’s music. ROH Champion Kevin Steen’s played and it was made official. On February 23rd Davey & Steen will face Eddie Edward & Roderick Strong in addition to Caleb Konley trying to regain his PWX championship from Adam Cole in a 2 out of 3 falls match.

#1MansFINALOpinion: Overall, this was not the strongest PWX show I’ve seen. This being the first time PWX has held a show at The Chop Shop, it didn’t allow for a “big event” feel as the previous venue.  The second half of the show was very good with the 4 way really building the show up to a pace where it normally already is at that point and the 2 main events delivering as PWX always does. I, personally enjoyed the squash match from Mr. Elite but would like to see him involved in some higher profile matches and feuds over the next year. The debut of SCUM in PWX felt a little flat to me, Lodi & Zane made an interesting tag team, Riley has really buiilt up an interest for his character over the last year and is really fun to watch in the ring. PWX always surprises though and for me that is something wrestling is missing. Amongst all the predictablilty, PWX leaves us asking Are the Dojo Bros as good as they say? Could their titles wins have been a fluke? Caleb Konley certainly looked like he had a renewed fire at this first show of the new year and you can believe he’ll be ready for the 2 out of 3 falls match at PWX’s premiere event Rise of a Champion on February 23rd.

Overall: 6.5/10
