MAIN-1

I haven’t missed seeing a PWG show live in three years and for the first time, I don’t have tickets.  “LIMITED QUANTITY AVAILABLE AT THE DOOR” was posted on prowrestlingguerrilla.com five days before the initial ticket sale ending date of June 11.  I’ve planned with my two buddies to camp out four hours before the show in hopes to get standing room only or I’ll just stand at the bar the whole time.   Either way, come hell or high water, I’m getting in.  This show is just way to important to  miss.

Departing to greener pastures seems to be a recent theme amongst PWG shows.  In December, Joey Ryan said good bye.  In January, El Generico said farewell and moved to Mexico.  And now it seems PWG will be saying good-bye to two more.  When you put that into perspective, it seems PWG is an important measure stick to the world of professional wrestling.  This show has only six matches total which hasn’t happened since Paul London’s debut show in February of 2009 at “Express Written Consent”, but in hindsight is a good thing because an 60 Minute Iron Man match plus  six or seven other matches would totally burn the crowd out.  Fun Fact: Wrestlemania 12 also had six matches on the card, the shortest amount of matches in Wrestlemania history.

RockNES Monsters (Johnny Yuma and Johnny Goodtime) vs. The Unbreakable F’n Machines (Brian Cage and Michael Elgin)

This match could be a super fun time.  I can only imagine the 1004 ways Michael Elgin and Brian Cage can throw Johnny Yuma and Johnny Goodtime around the Legion Hall.  I expect a double vertical suplex count going past two minutes.  I also predict at some point you will believe that Johnny Yuma has died from taking a crazy bump ala Steenalizer to the turnbuckle at Kurt RusselReunion 2.  I don’t see RockNES Monsters challenging for the tag belts soon and I feel their heel work needs to work out the smalls kinks and they’ll lock it down.  I think The Machines deserve their tag title rematch and I feel that they will challenge the Bucks next for the belts at the 10th Anniversary show.  Maybe in a ladder match of some sort.  RockNES can afford the loss and the Machines need to look strong to challenge for the belts again.  Fun Fact:  The Unbreakable F’n Machines are the shortest PWG World Tag Team Champions in the company’s history and the only team to win the tag team titles in the first round.

Winners: The Unbreakable F’n Machines

Kyle O’ Reilly vs. Davey Richards

This is a rematch from the first Wrestling Cares show and from their recent singles match in ROH.  I’ve yet to watch the ROH match but heard nothing but great things and the match at Wrestling Cares I saw live was fantastic for ten minutes.  I think they might go 15 or 20 and I think it will be intense from the start.  Based on the MMA style of their offense, I’ll make a bold prediction say this match ends with a knockout of some kind.  It could be a kick, or someone passes out for a hold or something dramatic to that effect.  This should be stiff, technical and a real crowd pleaser.  I think O’Reilly gets the win here and continues his moment of beating Callihan and Richards and challenges his partner/former partner Adam Cole for the PWG World Title at the 10th Annviersary Show.

Winner: Kyle O’ Reilly

Dojo Bros. (Roderick Strong and Eddie Edwards) vs. FIST of the Ronin (Johnny Gargano and Chuck Taylor)

FIST of the Ronin is something I made up just now.  This is somewhat of a cross promotional dream match.  DGUSA vs. ROH.  I’ve been wanting to see Gargano against both Strong and Edwards in singles and this might be the closest we get to that.  Taylor will get chopped and probably cry.  Gargano has to look strong because I think he’s a guy that could make a deep run in BOLA.   Dojo Bros are coming off a title challenge loss and Gargano and Taylor also lost to the Young Bucks the night before.  Both teams need momentum to challenge for the tag titles.  Since Gargano and Taylor haven’t officially challenged yet, I’ll say they pick up the win.

Winners: Johnny Gargano and Chuck Taylor

Kevin Steen vs. Drake Younger

This could be the PWG match of the year and I’m totally serious.  Younger had a fantastic match with Adam Cole at All-Star Weekend Night 2 and it didn’t involve Drake taking crazy bumps on thumbtacks.  In fact, had he not had stitches, I don’t think he would have even bled in the match and the storytelling would have still been great.  Younger and Steen are not just great brawlers, but they both have the ability to tell great stories in the ring.  They will brawl around the Legion Hall and probably try a couple of insane spots in between.  Younger has really gotten over with the PWG fans.  So much so that people are clamoring for him to be the next World Champ.  And what better way to prove he deserves to be at the top than by defeating the great Kevin Steen.  Younger plays an amazing under dog and based on his size can play that role extremely well here.  I think PWG is building towards a Drake Younger title run since he is a local now and this might be the final test to prove it.  I’m going with Younger here.

Winner: Drake Younger

Non-Title Match: AR Fox and Samuray Del Sol vs. The Young Bucks

This will be insane.  There will be so much lucha craziness that you won’t be able to track it all at the same time.  SUPERKICKS! and big dives is the name of this match.  People were raving about Fox and Del Sol vs. Inner City Machine Guns so this should be just as good if not better if that’s possible.  But sadly, Samuray Del Sol seems to be going on the greener pastures and this is probably his final PWG match, hence the non-title stipulation.  Del Sol might be the luchador savior that WWE has been wanting for the last two years.  Hopefully, we’ll see him on television soon facing those “Vanilla Midgets” like Daniel Bryan or Seth Rollins.  I say Bucks get the win here, then go on to defend the tat titles at the 10th Anniversary show which is somewhat fitting since they are the greatest tag team in PWG history.  AR Fox will probably go solo, eventually have his match with Kevin Steen and have a deep run to win BOLA.  I can only imagine Drake Younger vs. AR Fox in Reseda.

Winners: The Young Bucks

PWG World Title 60 Minute Iron Man Match: Adam Cole(c) vs. Sami Callihan

This seems to be Callihan’s PWG swan song.  If it is, he’s going on in epic fashion.  The only other Iron Man match in PWG took place in 2004 between Joey Ryan and Super Dragon and while that was good, the crowd was not that hot throughout the whole hour.  I think though, if paced right, can be well executed in the PWG environment.  First, thank god it’s only six matches because there would be complete burn out by this point if there were seven matches before hand or even six.  The first  half should be the first five matches then intermission so people can get rested up for the Iron Man match.  I think the PWG crowd has the patients for it and will react accordingly, I have faith in them.  I think Cole wins with some Ric Flair-esque decisions and Callihan gives a great speech at the end Cole and Callihan have faced each other plenty of times in CZW and even had a match in the semi finals of BOLA 2012.  This could be some amazing old-school wrestling story telling with heated drama at the end.  This will be the first time I will see a match (hopefully) going “Broadway”

Winner: Adam Cole

So yeah, I hope I can get in.  I’m sure I will, I just have to keep thinking positive and sit outside the building for four hours while watching Game of Thrones on my iPhone.  This is the show to build towards the big 10th Anniversary show this summer.  And like all other PWG shows from the last three or four years, this will be awesome.  My body is ready.  Is Your Body Ready?
