The list below is of five matches you shouldn’t hesitate to check out if you want to get acquainted with, catch up on, or relive some of the best stuff Combat Zone Wrestling had to offer this summer. All in my opinion of course.

May 1 – September 1, 2013.

5. “Tangled Web 6” – David Starr vs. JT Dunn: A pair of CZW debuts doesn’t get much better than this. Seriously, that’s pretty much all that can be said. It’s a must see for that reason. Props to both competitors and props to Beyond Wrestling for being the reason why these two got their shot in the dub. Debuts in CZW are notorious for bed shitting. This right here, is bed making. ***.

4. “Tournament of Death 12” – International Panes of Glass Match – DJ Hyde vs. Takumi Tsukamoto: Excluding the main event from the “Tournament of Death 12,” this match stole that show. The Boss, DJ Hyde and Big Japan Wrestling’s, Takumi Tsukamoto, ran away with the undercard of combat zone’s annual death match tournament. Nothing but the main event would come even close to catching up with it. ***1/2.

3. “New Heights” – Alex Colon vs. Shane Strickland: When a talent roster has some noticeable depth to it, a memorable singles encounter such as this is going to come around more often than not. ***1/2.

2. “Tournament of Death 12” – 444 Light-tubes/TOD 12 Final – Scotty Vortekz vs. Danny Havoc: A death match classic. Lock this contest in a vault, leave it behind and don’t touch it! Then, add an extremely graphic disclaimer and feature it on a future “Best of TOD” compilation. ****.

1. “New Heights” – Bandido Jr and Azrieal vs. John Silver and Alex Reynolds: In pro wrestling, sometimes the best stuff comes out of nowhere. This is one of those, “where the hell did that come from,” type of matches. This could have got over in any work-rate dominated promotion. I prefer that title over simply saying this match could have got over in PWG. Therefore, rather than calling this a really good, indy style match, which is what you may come to think of it, I much prefer calling this, just a great match. I assume CZW is proud to be able to say, not only can they out-due any North American indy when it comes to hardcore stuff, but they can also hang with any other indy when the thumbtacks and barbed-wire is left behind. ****.

If you were to force me to select one runner up match easily belonging with the list above…

“Tangled Web 6” – SIx Man Tangled Web Tag Team Match – Danny Havoc, Lucky 13 and Devon Moore vs. Drew Blood, Rory Mondo and Ron Mathis. If you want to argue there is a combat zone style, here is a match that stands as your argument. A feast for your eyes. A match like nothing else. Pun totally intended. More so a wrestling spectacle rather than a wrestling match. Devon Moore hits a shooting star off a scaffold onto a barbed wire board that Mathis is laying underneath of. What more do you want? ***.
