We start this week with the announcement that we’re going to witness the first ROH TV Title defense from Tommaso Ciampa against Silas Young who defeated Mark Briscoe at Final Battle.  This TV episode will also feature more matches from the 2014 Top Prospect Tournament. Let’s get to it.

TPT 2014 Quarterfinal: Andrew Everett vs Romantic Touch

It may be a complete mystery as to who RT is (is anyone confused?) but the debut of Andrew Everett in ROH is definitely something I’ve looked forward to.  The former Chiva Kid has a bright future when it comes to wrestling and I’m hoping that ROH takes advantage of him being a free agent.  Everett was able to showcase a lot of his high flying antics early on and RT was a perfect foil for this style as he also got some offense in, but it was all about Everett. Veda Scott came out and even said that RT was obviously Rhett Titus and that she didn’t like the fact that RD Evans and herself weren’t in the TPT.  Scott caused a distraction which lead to Everett getting a small package win.  Really should have allowed Everett to perform an actual finishing move but I guess we’ll see that later on.

They show us the video package of the Decade faction debut as they attacked Edwards at Final Battle. I’m of two minds when it comes to this faction. We just saw the one heel faction and two men that many fans were cheering in BJ Whitmer and Jimmy Jacobs are once again in a group. Roderick Strong has something going on now which is kind of a positive, but it also just seems like they were thrown together. Give us something more than just three guys who are resentful of other’s careers moving beyond ROH.

Jay Briscoe comes out with the “real World Championship” and he wants Cole to answer his open challenge. While this isn’t anything different from Briscoe, he still has a presence that comes across very easily on TV. Cole and Briscoe may be the feud going on until Supercard of Honor in April and I wouldn’t mind that as long as we see some finality and both men move on to something new.

TPT 2014 Quarterfinal: Cheeseburger vs Hanson

This really was a story of an underdog. Cheeseburger is never going to be the biggest guy in the ring (well maybe if Grizz comes back) but Hanson would be big no matter what. Hanson just lay into Cheeseburger for most of the match and the finish was crazy with Hanson’s wild spinning kick. Pretty sure most people reading this saw the post match pics we posted of Cheeseburger and it was clear here were the battle scars came from. Hanson has to be considered a favorite in the TPT.

Mark Briscoe vs Adam Page

The Decade came out before this match could even start and let people know that being in a company for 10 years means they can do whatever they want. Jacobs tries to recruit Mark Briscoe but he would have none of it.  The match was turned into a tag match with Page and Briscoe going against Jacobs and Whitmer.

This being the first time we’re getting to see The Decade in a match, I would have preferred to see them work a little bit stronger together and get more offense in. Bj & Jacobs are two time former ROH Tag Team champions. They barely beat a make shift team of a veteran tag team practitioner and a a man barely above a rookie in ROH.  Not the most impressive win but a win nonetheless. the Match was fine.

Main Event for the ROH TV Title: Tommaso Ciampa vs Silas Young

Tommaso’s entrance continues to be one of the most impressive in all of ROH. It was also good to have Jay Lethal on commentary as they should have a great series of matches.  Matt Taven came out before the match could start and paid respects to Ciampa by extending his hand but Young would blindside Taven before Ciampa could return the gesture.  These men met in the World Title Tournament and had a good match. This one was a step above that and was a fine main event for television.  The brawling style of both worked and it seemed both had grown from their previous encounter.  Young hit the PeeGe Waja Plunge but Ciampa kicked out at two and would soon after win via submission with the rings of saturn.

After the match Young and Lethal brawled when Young wanted to beat down the champ with the strap be brought to the ring. Taven also came out for the save and the three men who will be fighting at Wrestling’s Finest in Pittsburgh were in the ring together to end the show. Good episode leading to the event on Saturday.
