Toni Storm is awarded the World of STARDOM Championship following Mayu Iwatani’s injury during their title bout on Sunday – @vharuto1219 ©

The title change that occurred at Sunday’s show that seen Toni Storm be crowned as the new World of STARDOM Champion was reportedly not planned and was done in the spur-of-the-moment. The circumstances that led to the hasteful decision overshadowed a big moment for the New Zealand-born competitor, in that she should have been celebrating the momentous occasion, but instead was visibly disappointed in being handed the title without a proper fight for it. Mayu Iwatani walked into her third title defense one belt short on Sunday, as she dropped the promotion’s secondary championship to Yoko Bito the day before in Osaka. Regardless of what’s being reported, Iwatani losing to Bito two months after she retained the world title against her in Tokyo is a bit underwhelming in that the promotion has been throwing Bito into title matches since her comeback from retirement, but nothing has really stuck until now.

The matchup kicked off with the two competitors shaking each other’s hand in a sign of respect. By the two-minute and twenty-second mark, referee Diachi Maruyama called for the match to be stopped after Iwatani landed badly after attempting to dropkick Storm. Iwatani reportedly rolled out of the ring after missing the move and appeared to be hurt. However, no one knew what had transpired or the severity of her condition if she was truly indeed injured. Storm stood in the ring and watched as the referee signaled for the matchup to be stopped – she was then awarded the World Championship mere seconds after it was clear that Iwatani needed medical attention. Iwatani was eventually stretchered out of the Nagoya International Conference Center in Aichi and driven to the nearest hospital via ambulance where officials waited on hand for news on her condition.

The now-former champion had dislocated her elbow during the awkward landing as determined by doctors and is going to be sitting out a couple of shows while Storm goes forward defending the belt and Yoko doing the same in the meantime. According to the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, a dislocated elbow requires a minimum of two-to-three weeks to properly heal, unless the dislocation is severe, the recuperation process could be even longer. While the fallen champion was being carted out, the promotion was busy reigning in a new era with a woman that’s high in-demand right now on the indies fastening the buttons of their premier title around her waist.

Handing Storm the championship milliseconds after the unforeseen injury is probably the best decision the Japanese promotion could have made at the time. Toni Storm is the first competitor to have won the annual Cinderella tournament and the 5*STAR Grand Prix within the same calendar year and by doing so, she guaranteed herself not one, but two shots at the World of STARDOM Title. Her bookings have been running on caffeine over the past two years. She’s a focal point in the European wrestling scene as a current champion for PROGRESS, whose popularity has soared in the last couple of years due to their content being readily available for online access. She’s one of the more visible performers of today and is highly requested to be everywhere but because her bookings keep her shuffling back and forth between two continents, getting an actual run on the North American circuit or elsewhere might not be a necessity right now.

No one could blame Rossy Ogawa and company for wanting to hitch their wagon to be apart of Storm’s long list of accolades and profit from her visibility in a time where news travels faster through wireless components and ethernet cords than a monthly subscription to a magazine or a weekly episodic television program. Especially since Toni has experienced a great deal of success under STARDOM’s watch and banner. She defeated Yoko Bito in the finals of the 5*STAR Grand Prix back on September 18th and staked her claim for Mayu Iwatani’s championship. She’s actually the first foreign competitor to win the round-robin tournament, as previous winners have been in-house, Japanese performers. That same day, Iwatani lost to Kagetsu in another vicious spectacle by the leader of Oedo Tai in the final matchup of the Red Stars Block. Storm had won the Blue Stars Block after finishing with a whopping eleven points to beat out Io Shirai. Shirai had accumulated ten points over tournament’s run with four victories and two matches ending in a draw, handing her one point each. Her matchup against HZK ended in another draw via match’s time limit expiring; Storm had acquired the eleven points in the match before, as she defeated Kay Lee Ray with a Strong Zero from the middle rope.

Storm would need three-consecutive Strong Zeros to finish off last year’s winner, Yoko Bito in the finals and was again repositioned in front of the red belt and its champion after facing off as finalists in the Cinderella tournament back in April. It’s clear that the matchup had been in the making for quite some time. It’s more apparent that STARDOM has been wanting to super glue the world championship or it’s sister to Storm way before Iwatani’s upset victory over Shirai back in June. I really do believe that the promotion could have and would have handed Storm the belt back in May days before her ninth SWA Undisputed World Women’s Title defense against Jessicka Havok.

However, there appeared to be some hesitation on their part to pull the trigger at the time – the promotion still had the inevitable dethroning of Shirai to bank on and got her former partner to do the deed. Iwatani was reportedly supposed to unseat Io last December, however, plans were changed once Iwatani had decided she wanted to walk away from the sport in 2017. The long-standing rumors of Shirai and Kairi Hojo imminent departures left the promotion’s title picture completely wide open with a lot of people stepping up but not cementing a firm role in being the next star to continue on the hard work already done. Iwatani stepped in and took the Wonder of STARDOM belt off Kairi – she had dropped the High Speed Title to Kris Wolf back in February and failed to beat out Storm to win the Cinderella tournament for the third straight year.

Once she won the World of STARDOM belt, Iwatani stayed busy on the weekends with separate title defenses on promoted shows and pretty much carried the promotion on her back in the wake of Kairi’s signing and Io’s contract with the WWE being rescinded due to the discovery of a severe neck injury. Io’s eventual absence due to recovery also left a void that needed to be filled, as Iwatani’s expected title rematch against her would be put over even longer. She turned over successful title defenses against Yoko Bito, Viper, Kagetsu and picked up a disqualification win over Hana Kimura; she was two title defenses deep into her reign with the second tier championship when Saturday’s show at the Minato Ward Community Center rolled around.

Bito won and succeeded the championship she failed to topple Yuzuki Aikawa for five years ago in the main event. The win also marks Bito second title victory since coming back last April – her matchup against Aikawa turned out to be her last before electing to retire that November. Bito was primed to win the World of STARDOM Title from Nanae Takahashi that year, as the matchup was going to serve as a rematch between the competitors since going head-to-head in the tournament final the previous July. Takahashi was the promotion’s inaugural titleholder and one of their more experienced competitors on the roster along with Natsuki*Taiyo – they had capitalized off making Aikawa into their own star and household name, even though she already had a following before jumping into professional wrestling. The promotion had anointed Bito as the future “ace” in their eyes long before Io Shirai and was prepared to do everything in their power to reap the success of one member of their first graduating class going the distance; Iwatani and Kairi Hojo were also apart of the 2010 class.

You would think that the time to explore the options of having Bito as the new World of STARDOM Champion would be right now – especially during Io’s absence, where she and Iwatani could have potentially begun a hot feud over the strap that could be ongoing right now. Instead, the allure and attraction of Toni Storm as the face of the Japanese promotion proved to be the ideal situation than going forth with Bito in that spot.
Back to the title change – STARDOM made the right call in awarding Storm the title, as the logistics of Iwatani’s injury could force the championship to be vacated. Their busy schedule doesn’t leave room open for another tournament to be orchestrated this year to crown a world champion, especially when they already have their hands tied in booking more foreign talent by the bunches, additional titles and tournaments to be done before this year’s departure. However, it does cheapen the win for Storm in a way that because of Iwatani’s untimely accident, their audience is rushed into accepting a new champion just because – it also shows that Iwatani’s reign was practically disposable and was a temporary fix to an ongoing problem that no longer appears to be one. Iwatani could be looked as a transitional champion that held onto the belt long enough for Storm swoop in and took it like STARDOM had wanted. Storm did mention that once Iwatani was medically cleared, that she wanted to face her properly in a rematch down the line. Only time will tell if STARDOM honors Storm’s wishes and gives her the rematch.

Some things that happened over the weekend and this week…

The second entrant into the Making Towns Classic was determined on Friday, as Jordynne Grace defeated Allie Kat in a qualifier at NOVA Pro’s show in Fairfax, Virginia… Jaylee retained the OVW Women’s Championship against Jessie Belle on Wednesday… Ice Ribbon’s eight-team tournament to determine the new International Ribbon Champions kicked off on Saturday in Yokohama, as the teams of Hamuko Hoshi and Mochi Miyagi, Satsuki Totoro and Nao DATE, Risa Sera and Maya Yukihi have advanced to the second round. The tournament continues on October 9th with the semifinals taking place at the Ryōgoku Kokugikan, and the finals headlining Korakuen Hall on October 29th. Risa Sera and Yukihi would have been pitted against the winners of Best Friends (Tsukasa Fujimoto & Arisa Nakajima) and Maruko Nagasaki Mio Momono in the semifinals, however, the matchup ended in a time limit draw on Saturday’s show, and as a result, both teams were eliminated from the tournament.

That leaves Satsuki Totoro and Nao DATE and their semifinals collision against Hoshi and Miyagi as the only matchup in the next round. The winner of the match will go on to face Sera and Yukihi in the finals, as they were given a “bye” due to the double team elimination in the first round. It was also announced by the promotion that Risa Sera will be defending her Infinity Championship against Nagasaki on October 9th and that Fujimoto will also be in title action. She defends her Triangle Ribbon Championship against Mio Momono and Arisa Nakajima on the show… Paige Turner lost the IZW Women’s Championship for a third time on Saturday via a five-way, Scramble match in Lawton, Oklahoma, as Erica Torres regained the title for the seventh time… Indi Hartwell defeated Savannah Summers in a Tables Match on Saturday on a show for Professional Championship Wrestling in Geelong, Victoria… Queen Maya retained her ICW Women’s Title against Irene and Jokey on Saturday in Lodi, Italy…

Rachael Ellering’s RESISTANCE Pro Women’s Championship was on the line in a Fatal-Four-Way on Saturday in Summit, Illinois. The show was a collaborative effort between Freelance and Resistance Pro Wrestling; the match was not heavily promoted, however it was Ellering’s first and only title defense since becoming champion back in November. Last September, the belt was declared vacant upon “Crazy” Mary Dobson’s signing with the WWE. Dobson had defeated Mickie Knuckles in a No Disqualification match back in March of 2015 and went on to make nine successful title defenses before relinquishing the championship after holding it for 539-days. Dobson’s title reign is the longest in the belt’s lineage; the majority of her title defenses including her matchup against Knuckles headlined Resistance Pro’s shows for months.

The promotion held a one-night tournament to crown the new champion last November in Summit, Illinois. Amazing Maria, Paloma Starr, Ellering and Miss Hannah were the four competitors vying for the championship that night in the Park District. Rachael and Maria won their first-round matches, besting Miss Hannah and Paloma respectively to move onto the championship finals, held in the show’s main event. Ellering dropping the title adds more speculation that she and a handful of others have inked deals with WWE following the Mae Young Classic…

Also on October 9th, the semifinals of the PURE-J Openweight Championship tournament will commence at the KFC Hall in Tokyo, as Hanako Nakamori will be going up against Alex Lee and Aoi Kizuki will be taking on Manami Katsu. Katsu defeated KAZUKI in the final matchup of the Exciting Block on Saturday, winning with the Lariat and finishing the first set of brackets with four points. Aoi won the Utility Block by defeating Saori Anou with the Swivel Body Press; she finished with four points also. Alex Lee beat out the veteran, Leon and walked away with three points instead of the warranted two per victory and it’s because she bested Leon in under five minutes and won the Power Block via pinfall.

Nakamori won her respective block, Rises, back on September 13th after beating Yako Fujigasaki in the show’s main event. Command Bolshoi was awarded three points for beating her opponent, Saori Anou in a similar fashion as Alex Lee, however, the win landed her one-point short and behind Kizuki in the Utility Block, as she advances instead. It was announced that Bolshoi and Leon would defend their Daily Sports Tag Team Championships against Saori and Natsumi Maki on October 9th in their third title defense since the closure of PURE-J’s predecessor, JWP back in April and their fifth overall… Lady Shani’s number one contender’s spot for the AAA Reina de Reinas Title was on the line on Saturday against La Hiedra. She won the match via submission with a front facelock; Shani used Sexy Star’s cross armbreaker during the match in reference to the incident at TripleMania a few weeks ago. Shani’s title matchup against Ayako Hamada should be coming up soon… Chihiro Hashimoto successfully retained the Sendai Girls World Championship in Sunday’s main event, picking up her first title defense against Meiko Satomura with the German Suplex Hold. The new tag team champions were also decided on the show, as DASH Chisako regained the title she never lost alongside her partner, KAORU. Together they defeated Mika Shirahime and Alex Lee after DASH landed the Hormone Splash on Shirahime for the win. Chisako is a now a four-time Sendai Girls Tag Team Champion and is the only competitor thus far to have held the title that many times, whereas this is KAORU’s second nab of the belts…

The new Sabotage Champion, Heather Monroe posing with the title moments after defeating Delilah Doom – @heavywrestletv ©

Delilah Doom’s reign as the inaugural Sabotage Wrestling Champion is now a thing of the past, as she dropped the belt to Heather Monroe on a show for Santino Bros. in Downey, California. Doom won the championship earlier this year, back in February to be exact, and successfully retained the belt on three occasions and held onto it for a total of 216-days before Friday night’s title change. The matchup not only marked Monroe’s first official challenge for the strap, but it’s also her first championship win of her career since debuting sometime last year. The show also featured Raze unsuccessfully challenging for the World Championship in the main event, as Tyler Bateman lost the title to Brody King… Lots of first title defenses were made st STARDOM’s show on Sunday – Mari Apache retained the High Speed Championship against Hiromi Mimura via the Swanton Bomb. Yoko Bito bested Jungle Kyona to retain the Wonder of STARDOM Championship and Viper, Io Shirai and HZK defeated Tam Nakano, Kris Wolf and Kagetsu to hang onto the Artists of STARDOM Titles…

Deonna Purrazzo gets top billing again at this upcoming weekend’s Women’s Wrestling Revolution show up in Providence, Rhode Island and she’s going to be taking on a woman that has wrestled practically everywhere for the very first time. She main events the Aurora once again on October 8th, as she wrestles Mia Yim on the card set for the promotion’s farewell to the venue, that closes at the end of the month. Purrazzo recently pulled off the upset victory over Awesome Kong at the latest show in Providence and according to sources, Kong called it in the ring and handed the busy grappler the win. Deonna’s shock and disbelief were genuine because the last minute decision has credited new bragging rights to her already lengthy resume. Claiming a win over Kong is not something many people in the business have been able to do successfully, especially during her infamous Knockouts Title run almost a decade ago.

Yim also faced off against Kong a few years ago for SHIMMER and like Deonna, this matchup was another big matchup in her still budding career. She had already gone up against Sara Del Rey, Daizee Haze and much of the indies’ top brass when it came to women’s wrestling at the time – going up against Kong was another accomplishment checked off her proverbial bucket list. The matchup was the opener for the promotion’s official test run at producing a live show during WrestleMania weekend and having it broadcast to a stream in real time, as opposed to taping everything within the confines of the Berwyn Eagles Club.

Another big matchup on the card is Jordynne Grace taking on Rachael Ellering. These competitors have only faced off one other time besides this one. Grace unseated Ellering of the Pro Wrestling Magic Women’s Title back in June as part of a four-way that also involved Sonya Strong and former champion, Terra Calaway. Taeler Hendrix and Alexxis Nevaeh will reprise their roles as tag team partners despite their loss to Holidead and Thunder Rosa in August and will be taking on Delmi Exo and her sister, Ashley Vox. Renee Michelle and Nyla Rose will also be teaming up; this will be Nyla’s official debut for the promotion. Women’s Wrestling Revolution has also announced the returns of Tessa Blanchard, Karen Q, Calaway and Tasha Steelz for the show.

What’s going on this weekend on the indies and beyond…

Beginning on Friday, there are loads of shows happening this weekend with women in action or running the whole shebang from the top of the card to the show’s closer. LuFisto’s championship will be on the line in Morrison, Tennessee two weeks after successfully retaining her prestigious belt against Holidead and Ivelisse at SHINE 45. She will be defending against a first-time opponent, Aja Perera for the All-Pro Wrestling promotion within the state; it will be Perera’s second time contending for a championship in SHINE Wrestling since losing to Kiera Hogan in the title tournament back in July. Tennessee All-Pro has announced a bunch other names despite no official card for Friday’s show at the Victory Center aside from the main event. Dementia D’Rose, Ray Lyn, Jordynne Grace, Zoey Skye, Laynie Luck, Ayoka, Holidead, Stormie Lee and former three-time NWA World Women’s Champion, Tasha Simone. The show will also include April Hunter wrestling for the first time in three years and Tracy Taylor coming out of a hiatus as well. Tracy’s last match came against Miss Rachel, who’s also on the show, at SHINE 38 last November.

Instead of dinner and a movie, it will be wrestling and a movie this Saturday in Chicago, Illinois, as SHIMMER will be loaning various members of its roster for a one-time, unique event that afternoon at the legendary Music Box Theatre. The promotion’s champion, Mercedes Martinez, Jessicka Havok, Rachael Ellering and a whole heap of others will be apart a double feature in the windy city that consists of a matinee screening of Signature Move and a women’s wrestling event following the movie’s premiere. Directed by Jennifer Reeder, the movie is about two Chicago-raised women who come from different cultural backgrounds forging a bond over lucha-style wrestling and eventually fall in love. The live wrestling event will take place at The Hangar at Fort Knox Studios where scenes from the movie were filmed.

Onto the card for “Life, Love & Lady Wrestling” – Mercedes will be defending her prized SHIMMER Championship against past rival, Jessicka Havok and it will actually be their first collision in five years. The last time they fought was in a Casket Match where Havok had retained the WSU Championship against Martinez at the “Uncensored Rumble” in June of 2012. Rachael Ellering will be taking on Chelsea Green, Delilah Doom faces off with Dust, Kiera Hogan goes up against Kikyo and Hudson Envy takes on Samantha Heights. Amanda Carolina Rodriguez and La Rosa Negra will also be apart of the show; they face Laynie Luck and Dominique Fabiano. Aja Perera will be taking on Randi West and Thunderkitty will also be on the card…

A first-time collision is booked for House Of Glory’s Friday night show in Queens, New York, as the promotion’s homebred talent, Sonya Strong goes one-on-one with Tessa Blanchard… Alexxis Falcon challenges for the Alpha Omega Women’s Championship this Saturday in Morecambe when she takes on Felony for the strap… Pro Wrestling Syndicate returns to Metuchen, New Jersey on Saturday – one women’s match has been announced for the show as opposed to a full-on standalone event like in the past. Missy Sampson will be teaming up with Brittany Savage and Tai to take on Kelly Klein, Annie Social, and Maria Manic… Veda Scott’s ongoing tour of the United Kingdom continues on Sunday, as she faces off against Jinny for Revolution Pro Wrestling’s event in London… Also on Sunday, Seleziya Sparx takes on Alexia Nicole and Penelope Ford for Greektown Wrestling in Toronto… Lana Austin’s FutureShock Women’s Championship will be contested for in Stockport, England on Sunday. She wrestles Lady Catherine Darcy…

Nicole Matthews takes on Taya Valkyrie and Christina Von Eerie for Defy Wrestling up in Seattle, Washington on Friday… This Sunday, Kasey Owens defends her ICW Women’s Championship against Kay Lee Ray in Glasgow. It will be Owens’ third title defense since taking the belt off Ray at the tail end of July and it’s also, the second time she’ll be defending against the former champion since overcoming her in their rematch the following day… Bea Priestley gets a chance to win back the title she never lost physically on Monday. She faces Kay Lee Ray in Newcastle, England in Ray’s first title defense since winning the belt. Back in June, Priestley was scheduled to defend the WCPW Women’s Championship against Kay Lee Ray, however, she was unable to make the show. In her place, Viper stepped in as a replacement and unsuccessfully defended the title against Ray, as she became the new champion…

Also happening on Monday is an eight-woman tournament to determine the next oncoming challenge for Toni Storm and her Women’s Championship. PROGRESS has announced that the one-night tournament will be held at The Dome in Tufnell Park, London and will feature familiar faces like Alex Windsor, Chakara, and Candyfloss. The tournament will include several women that have never faced Storm for the title including the aforementioned. Candyfloss, Sierra Loxton, Millie McKenzie, Chakara, Zoe Lucas, Charli Evans and Charlie Morgan will all be stepping inside a PROGRESS ring for the very first time. In Morgan’s case, it will be her first match back since taking a nasty spill at Pro Wrestling: EVE’s doubleheader back in July where she suffered a broken collarbone.

Who’s dropping more announcements these days, Alternative Wrestling Show or RISE? – It’s a combination of both.

The Californian promotion has a Women’s Title defense pinned for this Saturday’s show in South Gate, in addition to a tag team match and two singles matches announced for the lineup. Raze will be cashing in her championship opportunity at “Lethal Lottery” as she goes up against Nicole Savoy in her second defense as champion. Back in May, the title contender won the yearly women’s tournament after beating LuFisto in the finals and as a result of the coveted win, she received a shot at the titleholder.

She recently tangoed with Taya Valkyrie in a No Disqualification matchup in the main event of the promotion’s return to the American Legion Post and is, currently undefeated since singlehandedly besting Candice LeRae and Jordynne Grace in the tournament. Most recently she’s claimed wins over Amale Winchester, Priscilla Kelly, and Mercedes Martinez. Raze and Savoy’s title contest will be more than just a standup one-on-one fight for a championship. It’s actually a matchup that’s been in the making for over a year and it also happens to serve as a rematch between the two competitors. Their last collision took place in Metairie, Louisiana on a show for Wildkat Pro Wrestling and it ended in a disqualification win for the challenger. Raze had already claimed a singles victory over Savoy two months before going into the matchup, as she picked up her first title defense as PREMIER Women’s Champion against her in Gilroy, California.

Going into this matchup, it appears that Raze has the upper hand in this fight and has the most momentum in her corner. She’s currently one title defense deep into her reign as FIST Combat Champion since winning the belt back in July and becoming the first woman to hold the championship. She’s also racked up an undefeated streak outside Alternative Wrestling Show in other promotions lately, whereas Savoy is currently coasting off the Mae Young Classic wave and is still getting back into the swing of things since coming back from injury. Deonna Purrazzo was set to face Samara in one-on-one action on Saturday, however, the matchup has been changed to a triple threat, as Akane Fujita will no longer be taking Kikutaro as previously announced and will be apart of this match instead. Leva Bates and Renee Michelle will be teaming up to take on Buggy Nova and Sage Sin, and that finishes out the card for this weekend’s show.

Onto the announcements…

– RISE Wrestling ©

The promotion had already announced its planned double shot in South Gate, California for the weekend of December 1st and 2nd and that RISE would be apart of this deal, by holding a developmental seminar hours prior to their show that Friday evening. Cheerleader Melissa will be taking part in the seminar in addition to WWE Hall of Famer, Madusa and Bull Nakano making her first appearance in the country since 1996. It will be Nakano’s first time back on the west coast since wrestling the aforementioned at the Denver Coliseum for Clash Of Champions. RISE had been teasing the inclusion of a “legendary” Japanese wrestler for the training seminar for weeks and it makes perfect sense for it to be Nakano with Madusa’s current ties to STARDOM and their storied past. Melissa is the current President of the Japanese promotion’s U.S branch and handles the booking and recruitment of foreign talent, while Madusa serves as the Commissioner and oversees decisions.

With all of that said, the next announcement concerning RISE 6: Brutality on December 1st sees Shotzi Blackheart making another title defense and it comes against STARDOM’s own, Kris Wolf. The matchup will be Wolf’s first wrestling appearance in Southern California since last competing during STARDOM USA tour back in October of 2015. She’s formerly the High Speed Champion over in Japan and earlier this year, she ended Mayu Iwatani’s reign with the eight-year-old belt after 501-days to become the new champion. She dropped the title to Shanna in July after fending off five successful title defenses and before that, she made her debut for Pro Wrestling: EVE through their title tournament back in May. She even wrestled a few dates for Ring of Honor the next month before heading back to Japan.

Blackheart recently made her ninth title defense since becoming the Phoenix of RISE Champion at RISE 4: Warriors Rise back on September 15th as part of a live event with BellaTrix in Norwich. She successfully retained against Delilah Doom in the second title match on the show – Lady Lory unseated Alex Windsor of the BellaTrix World Title in her first match as champion. Living up to the show’s name, there will be some unexpected brutality on display. LuFisto and Angel Dust, simply going by “Dust” these days will be swinging some dangerous weaponry and it won’t be two-by-fours or light tubes. It’s actually up that alley; these two will go at it in a Barbed Wire Baseball Bat match. Rosemary, Delilah Doom, Britt Baker, Chelsea Green and Mercedes Martinez are some of the first names announced for the December events, in addition to Cheerleader Melissa, who will be wrestling on the show.

The back-to-back shows will actually be Melissa’s official return to the California independent scene after spending almost two decades wrestling out of the region. Melissa’s success has practically taken her everywhere. She’s traveled across the United States, into Canada, Puerto Rico, wrestled all over the United Kingdom and Japan, but it’s not just limited to those countries. If you name it, Melissa’s probably been there once, twice or several times. In recent years, the former SHIMMER Champion has slowed down a number of bookings she’s taking and portrays “Mariposa” for Lucha Underground these days and is not a visible fixture on the indies.

Melissa and Kris Wolf will be on hand for the California promotion’s show on December 2nd at the same venue and in the same city. Wolf will be making her official debut for Alternative Wrestling Show that night and her opponent will be announced during this Saturday’s lineup, while Melissa will be working there for the first time in two years. Her last appearance for the promotion seen her take Hudson Envy to task for the Women’s Championship in a No Disqualification, Falls Count Anywhere match that also included a special guest referee, Melina. The title match ended in a time limit draw, with Hudson retaining as a result. Melissa would be back in Japan the next month for STARDOM and that tour would consist of a rematch between the competitors in Osaka. Hudson retained again and this time, it was through a double count out.

However, these are not the only announcements concerning AWS’ December 2nd show – Alternative Wrestling has already booked three matches for the card. Shotzi Blackheart goes up against Rosemary in what looks to be a non-title matchup right now but could be boosted for the Phoenix of RISE Championship following Shotzi’s title defense against Wolf at RISE 6 the evening before if she so happens to retain. LuFisto and Jordynne Grace are also set for the show and they’ll be in tag team action against Raze and Sage Sin – this match on paper has potential to be a show stealer in addition to the six-woman tag team match that sees Priscilla Kelly, another name announced for the double shot weekend, Mercedes Martinez and Cheerleader Melissa going up against Britt Baker, Delilah Doom, and Chelsea Green. There will also be a women’s battle royal on the show and one of its first entrants has been announced, and it will be Lacey Lane making her official debut for the promotion.

Zoe Lucas was selected during RISE’s recent seminar over in Norwich and will be wrestling stateside this November for the promotion’s fifth event. Lucas will also be apart of SHIMMER’s weekend of tapings on November 11-12th. It had been announced in the weeks leading up to their first international seminar, which was facilitated by Mercedes Martinez and Madusa, that one lucky competitor would be chosen and brought over to Berwyn, Illinois for RISE 5 on November 10th. Lucas reportedly impressed the most; the big bookings and her official U.S debut come months after beginning the year with a two-month tour with STARDOM. Also announced for RISE 5 on November 10th is another title defense from Shotzi Blackheart, as she defends her strap against Britt Baker, Kikyo Nakamura, Delilah Doom, Chelsea Green and Dust in a matchup called the “Incursion of the Phoenix.” Details regarding the exact stipulations of the match are going to be revealed soon. Deonna Purrazzo, Nicole Savoy, Rosemary and Hudson Envy are the other performers announced for the show with more names to be announced in the coming weeks. The talent pool for the seminar includes Miranda Salinas, Tasha Steelz, Ray Lyn, Brittany Blake, Heather Monroe, Stefany Sinclair, Indi Hartwell, Dynamite Didi, Robin Maddox, Hyan, Hawlee Layne, Dominique Fabiano, Renee Michelle and Karen Q. The promotion has also announced the inclusion of another Joshi “legend” for their seminar and will be active on the show. This competitor has never been available for training seminars before and based on the shadowed outline the promotion provided on a flier with Madusa, it appears to be Aja Kong, who’s still high in demand over in Japan and it’s almost rare that you hear that she’s been able to lend her teachings to performers there.

WWE

Charlotte wrestles Natalya for the Smackdown Women’s Championship this upcoming Thanksgiving weekend on November 25th, as the matchup takes place inside a Steel Cage for the company’s live event in Greensboro, North Carolina, Starrcade. For the first time in three decades, the historic show’s name will be back in it’s home and held at the Greensboro Coliseum, however, WWE is not planning on resurrecting the show entirely, instead it’s another live event tagged with the “Starrcade” to dress it up and signify its importance to their casual fans and to also reattract fans in that market to take part in the former holiday tradition put on by Jim Crockett Promotions in the 1980’s. The show will not broadcast to the network as expected… Upcoming dates for NXT’s road trip on the west coast in November were announced last week, as live events in Phoenix, Arizona, Las Vegas and Riverside, California take place starting November 9th-11th… Paige, who’s been sidelined since last summer has reportedly been down at the Performace Center working towards a comeback in the ring. She was suspended last August after violating the company’s wellness policy; her mother, Saraya Knight had revealed that her hiatus from the main roster was due to an ongoing injury, later revealed to be her neck that was giving her an issue.
