ROH 11/25/17 TV Review: The Bullet Club vs.The Flip Army
10/20/17
2300 Arena
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

This week was the fourth episode from the set of tapings from after Global Wars at the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Ian Riccaboni and Colt Cabana were on commentary and welcomed everyone to show.

A backstage promo from the Bullet Club aired first, with Marty Scurll taking the lead, calling Flip Gordon’s team spot monkeys and more. Matt Jackson ended by asking Gordon where he thinks he’s going in an entertaining short segment.

First Match: Silas Young vs. Jonathan Gresham
Winner Earns a Spot in ROH World TV Title Match At Final Battle
The show went right to in ring action, with Kenny King joining commentary. After commentary wished everyone a Happy Thanksgiving, Young and Gresham locked up, only for the Beer City Bruiser to grab Gresham’s leg in the corner, allowing Young the opportunity to smash Gresham’s face into the turnbuckle. Young and Gresham worked well together here, giving Young a chance to show off his agility and speed. Gresham was able to cross himself into a pretzel while being pinned, lifting his shoulders off the mat, in a move I never seen before. Although the reasoning makes sense, BCB’s interference  broke up the brilliant exchanges between the two. BCB slide a keg into the ring, distracting referee Paul Turner and breaking up Gresham’s octopus submission. When Gresham took to the skies to fly off the top rope, BCB slowed him down again, allowing Young to recover and hit Misery for the pinfall victory. Post match, commentary confirmed that the match at Final Battle will be Young vs. Punishment Martinez vs. Shane Taylor and defending champion, Kenny King.

Winner: Silas Young

A video package of the issues between The Briscoes and Bully Ray aired, recapping everything that has gone down between them in a top notch piece of editing.

War Machine vs. ???
Before War Machine could hit the ring, Christopher Daniels and Frankie Kazarian ambushed War Machine with a vicious Pearl Harbor job, taking the two men out before their match could begin. Rowe and Hanson turned the tables on their attackers though. As Rowe went to throw Kazarian into the barricade, lawn dart-style, he over shot the throw and tossed Kazarian straight into a fan’s face. The entire crowd was shocked and the fan rose, bleeding from the face. The Addiction high-tailed it out of the arena through the crowd as Riccaboni sent the show to a Coleman’s Pulpit segment. Really well done here, it seemed like a run of the mill attack, but the end was really believable. The fan in question is actually Monster Factory Pro Wrestler Riley Shepard, but was not identified as such and this made the segment that much stronger.

Winner: No Contest

A Coleman’s Pulpit segment aired, with kenny King as the guest once more. This time though, the interaction between the two was not pleasant, as Coleman flat out told King that ROH was using him for his Bachelorette fame. He went so far as to call King a pimp for using his daughter to make money and King then challenged him to a ROH World TV title match in Florida. Coleman smugly ended the segment, clearly quite satisfied that he got himself a shot at the title.

Main Event: Flip Gordon, Coast to Coast & Scorpio Sky vs.
Bullet Club (Adam Page, Marty Scurll & The Young Bucks)
Jay Lethal on commentary for this match. LSG started off against Scurll, exchanging wrist locks and taking turns slipping out of each other’s grasps. As Cody celebrated on the apron, referee Todd SInclair tossed the World Champion from ringside, sending him to the back before Cody could even think about interfering. Matt tagged in and asked Gordon for a handshake, which he intelligently declined. Sky and a crip exchange with Matt, before Nick and Flip tagged in. The two put on a flip extravaganza here, with Nick showing off that he is just as agile. Eventually, Nick offered a handshake, but while he hemmed and hawed over sharing the hand, Matt snuck in with a mic and took his brother’s place, asking Gordon where he thought he was going.

Things broke down and everyone took turns in the ring, with Page hitting an amazing dropkick moonsault and then hit a moonsault to the outside on C2C. The Bucks followed with Rise of the Terminators, encouraging Scurll to try it himself, but Gordon caught him flush in the face with superkick before launching off the top rope onto a crowd on the outside. Back inside, the Bullet Club unleashed repeated clothesline on Sky in the corner, with Scurll comically being the only member not able to connect, repeatedly getting a boot to the face. In the end, a Rite of Passage/Indy Taker to SKy and Gordon by the full Bullet Club team earned them the pinfall victory. It’s matches like these that show how willing the Young Bucks are to make the other talent look great. The Flip Army looked stupendous and had their spots in this one, ultimately falling short due to the Club’s cohesion. Excellent match and definitely worth watching.

Winners: The Bullet Club

Final Reaction: B+/A-

This show had a little bit of everything, all leading to Final Battle. The match with Silas Young and Gresham was worked well and the interference is in line with Young/BCB, but it would have been nice to see Young win clean here, just because of how the company has propped him up, but I’m not against protecting Gresham. The Addiction/War Machine segment legitimately surprised the crowd and all four men sold the event exceptionally well. The main event was a fun romp and showed the lengths that the Young Bucks are going to create new stars. Gordon came off as a leader here and his team, like his time in ROH, showed flashes of brilliance that was overcome only by the true pack mentality of the Bullet Club. With less than a month to go until Final Battle, this was a neat little episode from any perspective.
