NXT SEPTEMBER 4TH 2019

Breezango vs. Chase Parker and Matt Martel
Breezango have a new entrance to help further their ‘reimagining’. Parker and Martel are the latest new names of the former 3.0, who’ve gone through a few on the house shows before settling on these. This was a fun little match, with Breezango getting the win with the Fashion Faux Pas. I’d like to see something more extended between these four, if Parker and Martel get a bigger role on the show

Cathy interviewed Jordan Myles, as he arrived with Keith Lee. Myles said he was nervous and Lee pointed out he shouldn’t be nervous, as he’d gotten this opportunity after only a couple of months in NXT, which is something he seems to be pointing out a lot.

Io was shown attacking Candice outside in the parking lot with a kendo stick.

They showed a promo from earlier in the day with Cameron Grimes, who was ranting about not winning the Breakout Tournament and now he was back at the bottom, but his goal to climb back to the top and become champion.

Velveteen Dream vs. Kona Reeves
Reeves controlled the middle of this match, but got too complacent and allowed Dream to make a comeback. Reeves would then try and grab the ropes to steal a win but got caught by the referee, which lead to Dream getting the win with the Dream Valley Driver. Post match, Strong appeared on the tron. He brought up Dream saying that Strong needed to do something to get his attention and revealed that he’d set fire to Dream’s couch, asking if he had his attention now.

Recap of Rhea Ripley confronting Shayna last week, along with a highlight package of Rhea, with a match between the two announced for next week.

Taynara vs. Bianca Belair
So, Taynara seems to have dropped her last name. Good job they did this now and not in a couple of weeks, so people wouldn’t freak out and blame it on Vince. The last name being dropped thing doesn’t usually bother me, but it feels like Taynara just being Taynara loses a little something. Taynara got to look very competitive here and probably took more of the match, until a fallaway slam on the floor by Belair turned the tide. Belair won soon after with the KOD.

In his office, Regal announced Mia, Bianca and Io in a triple threat match in two weeks time for the #1 contendership to the Women’s Title.

NXT CHAMPIONSHIP
Adam Cole (c) vs. Jordan Myles
After an underwhelming Breakout Tournament, it seemed like a good idea to go straight to this match on TV and give Myles a good showing, which is exactly what they did here. They told the story of Myles being the underdog, with Cole out wrestling him early on, then resorting to some shadier tactics when Myles started to get into the match. Cole then ended up firing Myles up and allowing him back into the match. Myles got a big near fall with a frog splash late on, before Cole avoided the 450 and got the knees up on the second attempt. Cole would then hit the Last Shot, on the second attempt and after two superkicks, to retain. Myles got a better reception before and after the match and this probably did more for him than winning the tournament did. Interesting that they didn’t use Keith Lee at all, having set him up as the one to watch Myles’s back, but doing the match this way was with a clean win for Cole was probably the way to go.

RECOMMENDED VIEWING: Cole versus Myles is worth watching. The rest of the show was fine, but seemed a little inconsequential compared to the main event, with the tag opener probably being the best thing outside of the title match.

NXT WEEK: Shayna Baszler versus Rhea Ripley and an appearance from Gargano to address his future.
