Young Bucks wins the Tag Team Battle Royale

Highlights:

  • This is a great way to start off the show. Tag team matches tend to dominate the program but the battle royale means more time on the card.
  • Scorpio Sky taking out an entire ring full of men with a crossbody. Only for Jack Evans to try the same thing and get eliminated.
  • Santana and Ortiz choose when to enter the fight. Similar to Jericho in his Royal Rumble appearances
  • Luchasauras Vs. The Butcher? yes, please.
  • Orange Cassidy giving Chuck Trent a ride on his shoulders.
  • The Best Friends and the Young Bucks teaming up?
  • Matt Jackson’s double suplex on Santana and Ortiz.

Low Points:

  • The Dark Order was pretty much just there to eliminate SCU.
  • it was either gonna be SCU or the Young Bucks.

Kris Statlander DEF. Shanna

Highlights:

  • Statlander’s cartwheels turned head scissors.
  • The back and forth poke of doom was a good chuckle for those who don’t take wrestling too seriously.
  •  Shanna’s DDT reversal.
  • Between this match and last week’s women’s championship battle women’s matches are getting better.

Low points:

  • The dreaded picture-in-picture means that part of the match is just fluff.

Nyla Rose Interview

Highlights:

  • A primadonna champion? I’ll take it!
  • “I break bitches” sounds like a good catchphrase.
  • Holy crap! is security actually able to do their job? A first in pro-wrestling.

Low Points:

  • Calling the audience bees is not insulting. maggots, cockroaches or flies would have been a better choice.
  • It’s hard to call it breaking Riho when the table a sign of destroying an opponent in pro-wrestling, was left untouched.

Jon Moxley DEF. Jeff Cobb

Highlights:

  • Jon Moxley finally gets an opponent who isn’t Santana or Ortiz.
  • Jeff Cobb is a powerhouse and I can’t wait to see more of him.
  • Post-match ends in something other than Jon Moxley getting beat down.
  • Darby Allin stealing Sammy Guevara’s sign gimmick.

Low Points:

  • A roll-up? Jon doesn’t always need to win. And with this being Jeff Cobb’s debut it’s a little embarrassing to have him lose.
  • A post-match attack by the Inner Circle? again?

Adam Page and Kenny Omega DEF. The lucha Bros.

Highlights:

  • Adam Page’s card reads ?como se dice yeehaw?
  • Ray Fenix’s over the ropes hurricarana onto Kenny Omega.
  • The Lucha Bros. and Omega and Page are two of the best tag teams in AEW. This match is filled with great doubles maneuvers. Reversals and the feeling like this could go either way.
  • The friendship triangle between the bucks, Adam, and Kenny is getting intense. It’s either gonna be Adam or The Elite.

Cody DEF. Wardlow

Highlights:

  • This match is the debut of the steel cage and Wardlow and both come out looking good. Wardlow an imposing and almost indestructible figure. The steel cage huge and scary.
  • Outside the ring we get MJF trying to intervene and apart from furthering his unlikeability, it’s nice to see him get his comeuppance at the hands of Arn Anderson and Brandi.
  • That Moonsault!
  • When Cody gets a chance to do something special he really shines. This makes me wish he would

Low points:

  • The commentary team spoils the ending by talking like Cody has already won during the match.
