NXT Review 1/18/17: King Of Glorious Style

NXT JANUARY 18TH 2017 Nikki Cross vs. Kennedy Lewis Cross basically dominated, with all brawling apart from the fisherman’s neckbreaker which ended the match. Kayla interviewed No Way Jose, asking how he planned on keeping his momentum going in 2017. Jose said he was going to fiesta in and out of the ring, new year same him. Kona Reeves interrupted and was upset that Jose came out to help Rich Swann against Sanity in Toronto but not him, saying he thought they were friends. Jose ended up challenging him to…

ROH 01/14/17 TV Review Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 2300 Arena The show this week was the third episode taped at the Final Battle Aftermath tapings. The episode started off with a recap of Lio Rush’s match with Caprice Coleman, in which Coleman was embarrassed by Rush. Kevin Kelly and Nigel McGuinness were on commentary for this episode. First Match: Lio Rush, Jay White & Donovan Dijak vs. The Rebellion (Kenny King, Caprice Coleman & Rhett Titus) After the footage, the six men stood face to face and after it became clear that…

NXT Review 1/11/17: DIY Do It Again

NXT JANUARY 11TH 2017 The show started with footage of Asuka being attacked outside the building by Peyton and Billie, with Billie pouring a drink over Asuka. Billie Kay and Peyton Royce vs. Macey Evans and Sarah Bridges At least this explained why Billie was in her ring gear for the attack because outside of the ring it does seem a little odd. Bridges (formerly Crazy Mary Dobson) got some brief offence in and looked good, but a facecrusher onto Billie’s knee got Peyton the win. Afterwards, Billie and Peyton…

ROH 01/07/17 TV Review

ROH 01/07/17 TV Review Philadelphia,PA 2300 Arena The show this week started off with a recap from the Decade of Excellence match between Christopher Daniels and Mark Briscoe. After the footage, Daniels cut a promo about one thing that has eluded him as a Ring of Honor competitor has been the world title and that he’s ready to prove to everyone why he deserves to get a chance to challenge for the title. Nice opener here as the promo work is top notch and the interspersing of old ROH footage…

NXT Review 1/4/17: Melbourne Legacy

NXT JANUARY 4TH Like last week it’s a double length episode, this time with matches from Melbourne. The Revival vs. Riddick Moss and Tino Sabbatelli Pretty routine match. Moss and Sabbatelli showed flashes, but clearly they’re not there yet (nor should they be expected to be) and there were a couple of slightly off moments. They certainly got time here, more than they would in Full Sail. Moss and Sabbatelli played face here, but with Sabbatelli’s look and backstory I can’t see that lasting. They teased the upset, but The…

ROH 12/30/16 TV Review

ROH 12/30/16 TV Review The show this week started off with a Kevin Kelly intro that welcomed us to a recap show that pieced together matches from the Reach For the Sky Tour from Leicester, Liverpool and London. It could also be called the best of Will Ospreay in ROH, as he was involved in every match on the episode. Due to how this was loaded on ROHwrestling.com, this show actually aired on 12/23. My review of the episode that aired 12/30 can be found here. First Match:ROH World Television…

NXT Review 12/28/16: The Osaka Show

NXT DECEMBER 28TH This week was a double length edition of the show with matches from the Osaka show, including the full Joe/Nakamura match which they showed in part three weeks ago. Oney Lorcan vs. Andrade “Cien” Almas Interestingly, Almas came out wearing the La Sombra mask for his entrance since they were in Japan. Almas kicked away a handshake to start. They wrestled a fairly basic match for the most-part but the work was solid. The most interesting moment was Almas using the Destino for a near fall, which…

NXT Review 12/21/16: Glorious Fourway

NXT DECEMBER 21ST Billie Kay w/Peyton Royce vs. Daria Berenato Daria largely dominated, despite a Peyton distraction. Peyton and Billie tried to leave and Daria stopped them, but Billie took the referee, allowing Peyton to ram Daria into the apron and throw her back in for the big boot from Billie and the pin. Daria looked pretty good but I guess there’s an issue if she has an MMA gimmick and she’s not the hardest hitter on the roster. After the match Peyton threw Daria outside and Billie says that…

ROH 12/17/16 TV Review

ROH 12/17/16 TV Review Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 2300 Arena The show this week started off with a video recap of Kyle O’Reilly defeating Adam Cole for the ROH World Heavyweight title at Final Battle. The episode is the first from the ROH “Aftermath” tapings from Philadelphia, two days after Final Battle. Kyle O’Reilly came down to the ring for the traditional championship promo.
