Kevin Ford’s Top 10 CHIKARA Matches of 2016

I love lists. Who doesn’t? It’s a fun way to create (hopefully civil) debate amongst your peers, whether it be about music, movies, television, books, and of course, pro wrestling. It feels like every year around this time on social media a number of wrestling fans are buried in their Excel workbooks, rewatching and recriquiting matches, perhaps catching the two or three matches that weren’t on the radar at the time they aired, trying to put together a definitive Top 10 (or so) list of what they feel were the…

EVOLVE 72 11/12/16 Review

EVOLVE 72 11/12/16 Review Queens,New York La Boom Pre-show Dark Match Tommy End vs. Tony Nese The crowd was split between both these men and the two did not disappoint. Beyond Wrestling “Americanrana 2016” Review

Beyond Wrestling’s biggest show of the year, Americanrana, was so big that the company returned to Fete Music for the occasion. They returned with a loaded card one year in the making, one that has serious potential on paper. What better way to start a big show than with a battle of big men? Keith Lee, who has been stealing shows the past few months, faced Brian Cage in a bonafide HOSS battle. This is pretty much everything one would want from a match like this: big guys doing big…

CHIKARA When Nature Calls and Back in the Habit Reviews

The first half of 2016 for CHIKARA was a vast improvement over the previous 18 months as they seemed to get back to basics and put the emphasis back on the characters and less on evil authority figures and conspiracy based storylines. Beyond Wrestling “By Popular Demand” Review

In February, Beyond Wrestling transitioned from Fete Music to Aurora, a mixed-use venue, as their new home in Providence, RI. The first show sold out so quickly that Beyond added a matinee event appropriately titled “By Popular Demand.” The show would also be the first full-length Beyond show to be exclusive to their VOD service, BeyonDemand. The show started off with a teacher vs. student match between Drew Gulak and Connor Claxton. To no surprise, Gulak dominated Claxton with on the mat early with a top wrist lock, then a…
